Word on the street is, 2016 will not only bring us the 45th President of the United States, outer space’s first hotel, but also the 38 brand new emojis! Expected to release around June 2016, some of the new symbols include an avocado, a pregnant woman, handshake, and Mother Christmas. While I thank the heavens that my text messages will finally have access to Mother Christmas, there are some objects and symbols that did not make the list, but definitely should have. Here are four emojis that we all wish existed, but for some reason have not entered the cyber world.
1. Shots/Shot glasses
There is a pint of beer, a glass of red wine, martini, and even a fruity mixed drink, but no shots. For some reason Unicode Consortium, the organization that brings us emojis, has deprived us of this last, but crucial alcoholic beverage.
On second thought, while having a shot emoticon might make it easier to describe a wild night in as few characters as possible, maybe its best if the shots are left at the bar, or out of our lives completely.
2. A Pirate
There is no specific or pressing reason why I think that a pirate emoji is necessary, but I am pretty shocked that one hasn’t yet been created. There is everything from an alien to a woman salsa dancing, but nothing even remotely resembling a pirate. All I have to say about that is, if Facebook can utilize “pirate language,” then Unicode Consortium needs to up their game.
3. A Middle Finger
I’m not really surprised that this emoji isn’t out there, considering its not the most appropriate gesture in everyday society. But you have to admit, there have been multiple times when you’ve gone to your keyboard searching for a middle finger and it is nowhere to be found.
4. Taco
Perhaps the most important symbol on this list - the fact that a taco emoji still doesn’t exist is one of the many mysteries of the world. There have been countless times where I’ve gone to write “awko [followed by a taco emoji],” and have come up depressingly empty-handed. The lack of a taco emoji makes me question whether our society is as advanced as we truly believe.
