Breaking up is not easy. Whether you are breaking up with someone, or being broken up with, a little piece of your heart is shattered and forced into repair. Some breakups, however, take a little bit more time to recover from and put the pieces back together.
S/he cheated break-up
It is heart wrenching to think about. It makes you believe that everything s/he ever said or did was a complete and total lie. This one instant has the ability to wipe away an entire past relationship and causes you to forget about every single good memory you two ever had because it is tainted with the thought of this other boy or girl. It has the ability to make you feel like your were not enough or insignificant. It is completely heart wrenching and destroys any trust you have in humanity, but getting over him or her sometimes may be easier because the idea of him or her is associated with hatred instead of love and longing.
Long distance broke us up
This one is tough because it is not that you two wanted to break up due to lost feelings, but it is that the distance just is not going to work anymore. Sure, you can continue to stick it out and work through it, but sometimes it causes more harm than good, and it is just better to say goodbye before things get messy. It is nice though that you will not have to be afraid of randomly running into him or her because they live miles and miles apart from you. Distance may cause the heart to grow fonder, but sometimes that is not enough.
Blind side break up
It seemed like just yesterday, you were talking with your best friend about how incredible your relationship was. You were so content with everything going on and felt like the world revolved around your and your significant other's beautiful and perfect relationship. It seemed like nothing in the world could tear you two apart, and you couldn't imagine yourself with anyone else. Evidently, you were the only one thinking this though. The blind side breakup is utterly unbearable because you don't understand what you did or what was wrong because you thought everything was perfect. This is a breakup where the heart truly does not break evenly because typically, the one doing the breakup leaves and moves on quickly because s/he knew it was coming for awhile now before doing anything about it. It's tough for him or her but not nearly as tough as it is for you.
Mutual breakup
There comes a point in some relationships, typically long lasting ones, where things just are not the same anymore. The fun and excitement has died down, and you two may just be going through the routine as if it is second nature. It's not that you do not love the other person anymore, but maybe the two of you don't see the relationship moving forward anymore. It is sad to see the other person walk away and to say goodbye to the relationship, but it is comforting knowing that most mutual relationships result in friendship or at least care and support post breakup. You end on good terms and may shed a tear (or a lot) over the lost relationship but leave knowing it was the right decision for the both of you.
No matter the breakup, it is going to hurt. It will take time to heal and some will take longer than others, but it is comforting knowing that with each breakup, comes new lessons and new realizations of what you want in the one who is going to finally be forever.
