A little sister is nothing short of being one of life's most wonderful blessings. On the day she is born God gives you a life long best friend. She will be someone to cry with, laugh with, and make millions of memories with. She will tell you the truth and she will fight with you and for you. She will be there for you through thick and thin. She will hug you at your best and hold you at your worst. Sisters are forever. Can you name everything you've learned from them? I know I can't, but this is a start:
1. How to be someone she wants to look up to.
Being a big sister is hard. Especially when you have someone constantly looking up to you for advice on fashion, boys, and everything else under the rainbow. Being a role model is a must because if she turns out bad you will have nobody to blame but yourself.
2. Sharing is caring.
There must be a law of a little sisters somewhere stating that it is perfectly fine to steal any of your big sisters things. Whether it is shoes, clothes, or make-up she will take it. You might as well learn to share early because it never gets better.
3. Patience.
She won't listen when you try to help her with homework because she "knows a better way". Later on she will come crawling back asking for help. It will take her awhile to learn to do her makeup like yours, and you will have to show her a million times. Hours will be spent sitting in her room because she doesn't know what to wear. With sisterhood comes patience. She wants your opinion even if it takes hours for her to accept it.
4. Everlasting Love.
You will never know real love until you hold your baby sister for the first time. You will look down at her and know that she will be your partner in crime for the rest of your life. She will be the first person you want to tell when big events happen in life, and she will be there when the worst things happen. No matter how mad she makes you, your love for her and her love for you is unbreakable.
5. Teamwork.
You know if you say you will take her that your parents will let you go. The art of bribery plays a huge role. If you bribe her with ice cream or her favorite C.D. she will go with you every time! It is always a win win situation.
6. True Friendship.
From day one you are blessed with a life -size barbie doll. You can dress her up and do her makeup. You can brush her hair and dress her up however you think is best. She will go everywhere with you, and she will do what you want even if it's not what she wants to do. She will forever be your Netflix buddy and you will always watch the same shows. She will be there when life gets bad, and she will be there when life is good. She will always be your person, and no amount of time or distance will ever change that.
7. The feeling of being more proud of her than anyone else.
From sports to dance you will always be her number one fan. You are proud of her when she hits that homerun or lands her first pirouette or comes home with straight A's on her report card. She makes you more and more proud everyday.
8. How to be Protective.
You never knew how much it would get under your skin until someone else picked on your sister. You may be able to pick on her, but nobody else has that right. You confront the people who are mean, protect her from the bad guys, and function as her full time body guard.
9. There is no such thing as secrets.
If you kept all of your secrets to yourself you might burst. Now, yes, she can probably end your life if she were to ever tell your parents some of your secrets, but you trust her anyways. She is the one you call when you are in trouble, or after you just had the most horrible experience of your life. You call her for the good and bad, and she knows everything about you.
10. She will always be able to make you laugh.
Even on your worst days she will be able to make you laugh one way or another. Whether she tickles you or brings up a really old story about how you slammed her head into a counter one time, she will make you laugh. It is a sister thing, laughter is always just around the corner.
11. A day apart feels like a year.
After being together in the same house for 18 years leaving for college is a hard time. There is no more late night movie nights in one of our beds, no more everyday hugs or kisses, and no more after school day trips to Starbucks to get our favorite drinks. There is distance now, and even though you will be reunited soon, the time apart sucks. Facetime, texting, and calling is more important now than ever.
