A Mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path."
-Agatha Christie
Webster defines a parent as a person who is a father or mother; a person who has a child. A parent exceeds the definition given. A parent is a person who goes above and beyond for their child, one who goes without to make sure their child has it all. Parents are children’s first friend and teacher. A parent is a person who looks upon the face of their child and realizes why they cannot give up. A parent is a person who finds the strength to raise a child on his or her own. A parent is my hero, my pride and joy, the driving force in my life, the queen of my heart, my mom.
From my difficult birth,
To my horrible, but awesome
Adolescent years
You’ve never lost faith in me.
Whether petulantly pouting,
Or flashing my megawatt smile,
Or my whiny child’s voice,
Echoing throughout the house.
With each sharp intake of breath you take
I see your tolerance escalate.
Even when my demeanor shifts
From obnoxious and social
To cold and disconnected,
Bipolar is what you like to call it.
Your love never wanes.
There isn’t anyway
I could ever repay you.
Therefore, I’m forever indebted to you.
Mom,
I cherish you.
“She is my strength when I am weak. She is my voice when I cannot speak. She is my eyes when I cannot see. She sees the best there is in me. She lifts me up when I cannot reach. She gives me faith because she believes. I am everything I am because she loves me.” As I recite the lyrics from Celion Dion’s well-known song “Because you loved me,” it hit me full force that unknowingly, Celion Dion is describing every hard working mother across the globe. Everything that I am and aspire to be is all a payoff to my superwoman, my reason to persevere, and the light in my darkness, my mom.
