It is early in the second day following the 2016 Presidential election and I am unable to sleep, constant tossing and turning fill my bed along with a heavy heart. Throughout this election process I have been very quiet, especially when it came to social media. However, I believe now it is time for me to share my thoughts. I do not have a heavy heart because Hillary Clinton will not be the next President, nor is my heart heavy because Donald Trump will be, it is heavy because how America is reacting towards these results.
Before I go any further, yes, I did vote for Donald Trump. This election was a close one and a tough one, quite a few of us can agree that neither one of the candidates was the best option to lead OUR country. I did not vote for Trump because I like him nor I approve of the way he handles himself, however I did vote for him because I could agree with his political stance more than I could with Hillary's.
I am absolutely heart broken by the amount of hate and poor reactions I have seen being made by people because the election did not go the way they expected. The name calling, threatening to kill other people, protests, burning of our country's flag and so much more. It breaks my heart; our nation is divided and we need to come together as one. I am not saying you cannot mourn the loss of your candidate, you are more than welcome to do so, but please do not belittle or undermine others because of it. We have not done it to you. We, as a nation, need to stop spreading hate, start spreading love, accepting each other for our differences, and start changing society to help us become the change we want to see in the world.
Yes, I voted Trump. No, that does not make me racist, homophobic, sexist, misogynist, uneducated or anything else you can think to call a Republican. I am a young, white, American female, with a college degree that I paid for myself without help from the government and a job that does not pay much. I support Trump. Let us all pray that God will heal and bring this great nation that we are all lucky to call home back together. As well, we should all pray for President Trump as he prepares to lead America, and hope that he will make decisions that are best for everyone!
