The Force Awakens In Marco Rubio

In this war, a danger there is of losing who we are.

The Force Awakens In Marco Rubio

For months all we have heard about is darkness. Spewing out of Trump’s overly plump lips have been words of hate, derogatory comments about women, religion, and ethnicity. We watch as Trump has invoked fear and chaos into innocent people, turning them into his clones preaching words of anger and terror. Vladimir Putin, the ruthless leader of Russia, stands across the world praising and endorsing Trump, his fellow mate in the darkness. We see Ted Cruz standing by his side as a faithful Darth Vader character buttering up the Sith lord. In this hour of fear and restlessness, what the GOP needs is light. We need a candidate with fresh ideas who is able to work with others, rather than shut them out of compromise. We need someone who has the ability to bring goodness and understanding back to not only the Republican party, but to our county.

What the party needs is a Madisonian Pragmatist: someone who holds true to their beliefs but is willing to work with others to accomplish more and get things done. They do not sit and twiddle their thumbs; rather, they work across party lines to build a stronger and better America. Three candidates stand out from the rest who have the ability to be this philosophical politician: Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie; however, only one candidate can defeat the rival, Hillary Clinton, in this saga: Marco Rubio.

Rubio has repeatedly proven his ability to work across party lines throughout his tenure as a Florida senator. A good example is the Gang of Eight Bill, An immigration bill that would have secured the border and offered a pathway to citizenship for legal immigrants. Where immigration is often a difficult subject among Republicans, Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, abandoned traditional conservative beliefs to instead do what was best for the country and ensured that what built our country stayed intact: immigration and the American dream.

In a time of fear and pessimism, Rubio has offered and continues to offer a message of hope and change for the country. What he brings is a message of optimism as he envisions a better and stronger America. Where fellow candidate Trump, a resident of the Galactic Empire, invokes fear into others surrounding religion and current global affairs, Rubio offers true policies that reflect the moral of the "Star Wars" franchise, a new hope.

Unfortunately, at this time, voters continue to be obsessed with the demagogue that is Donald Trump. Staring blindly into his tunnel of darkness, we see an obsession with a tough-guy demeanor and a macho-man attitude. Instead, we must refocus on candidates that offer policies that reflect the continuously changing world that we live in and only one candidate can do that. Marco Rubio, the Force has awakened in you. It is time for you to be our Jedi and lead our party and country back into the light.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
