The food pyramid is a model that tells us what we should eat in order of importance to keep us healthy. When you go to college, your eating habits change for better or worse, and certain foods become more important to everyday survival than ever before. Here’s the way the food pyramid has changed for us, as told by the students at WSU:
At the top: Alcohol
Drinks at Varsity, Mahoney’s bowl, Boynton buckets, $5 pitchers, or scorp bowls from Ho Toy...There’s tons of booze to love/hate here in Worcester. Chances are you’ve been sitting in class on a given Thursday, and found yourself daydreaming about the vodka-cran that you’ll have in hand in all of your snap stories later that night. What can we say? Work hard, play harder.
Second tier: Take out, delivery and Moe’s
Maybe we like it because it’s easily accessible, or maybe because it’s all just so damn good. But regardless, there’s nothing better than getting a text from the Wings Over Worcester guy saying that he’s waiting downstairs with your DC-10. Cheesy breadsticks from Dominos or Freshway are day-makers too. When you’re feeling lazy, Worcester is a great place to be for delivery food. That being said, Moe’s is always worth the trip since it’s right down the street. And you can bet that on your way back from Goddard, Frank will ask you how your Moe’s Monday was as he whips it back to campus, jamming to T-Swift’s 1989.
Third: Caffeine
The utmost importance of an iced coffee in the morning is something that pretty much all college students can agree on. Here at WSU, coffee is easily attainable and is available at a couple of super convenient locations. Although Sullivan Cafe’s line tends to extend out the door most mornings, standing in it is 100 percent necessary, and worth being late to class for. Some nights, grabbing that Monster from the C-Store is just as necessary to get us through that 12 page paper due the next morning. Thankfully, the Woo has it’s own Starbucks at the entrance of the library, so while we’re studying our days away, we can at least snag a caramel macchiato to make it a little more survivable.
Finally, the base: Carbs
Mac and cheese, pizza bagels along with other c-store delicacies, Bagel Time bagels, and endless Dominos. There’s a reason every pyramid had a strong base. Carbs are what keep us going here at the Woo, and there are so many beautiful options surrounding us. From the entire section at the POD dedicated to pizza, to the pasta station that hooks it up almost every lunch and dinner, carbs are life. Have the drunchies? Carbs are always your go-to. Chances are, you have some left over mac and cheese in your fridge anyway. If you don’t, another box of Annie’s it is. Hungry on your way to class? There are like six places on campus that you can snag a bagel, or a BOMB grilled cheese. Are you a freshman who’s too lazy to walk to the dining hall? You and I both know you’re already waiting in the C-store for your chicken parm sub to be ready.
