Following in his footsteps.

Forever my hero.

73

As a little girl people would tell me how my dad was a hero, and how he would go and help people in emergency situations.

I've always been proud of him for that, but growing up and watching him do the job that he does just makes me even more proud.

He has given up countless hours to serve the people in his community and help them in any way he possibly could. I have seen how calls have affected my dad, and I've seen how he has handled it. Several times he's come home and held me a little closer or threw in an extra "please be careful" because he had seen a teenager severely hurt twelve hours before. On one occasion my dad was in the newspaper for climbing into a vehicle that was about to burn up to save someone's things. He once told me about a day when he was off duty and passed by a man who's car engine was on fire on the side of the road and how he struggled to get the fire out. As I've gotten older he's started to confide in me the stories and situations he's been in over the years and how they played out.

Growing up being so proud of him has made my decision to follow in his footsteps that much easier. EMS has and will always have a special place in my heart it's just in a different way now. I want to make my dad as proud of me as I am of him. I want to be as good at the job as he is. I've got a long road ahead of me before I get to where I want to be, but lucky for me I've got someone to help me along the way.

I love you daddy and I'm proud of you for being the father and firefighter you are!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
