When it comes to fall, there are so many great things to look forward to. Whether it’s the decorations, celebrations, weather, or food. Who doesn’t love food, especially for all you pumpkin lovers out there? I’m going to give you five simple but worthy fall flavors you can bake to just create or to impress. Either way, you’ll be running back to the grocery store every week because these goodies will fly as fast as the witches from "Hocus Pocus" (Even though they don’t really fly that fast).
1. Pumpkin Roll
This guy is one of my all time favorites. It’s a cake and a roll all mixed into one. Either way, I don’t care what it is because it tastes like autumn in my mouth. It has a refreshing flavor with a sweet kick, but not too heavy on the sweet side. It is great to bring to parties and is super simple to make. Some advice from an experienced cake roller, make it thin, but not too thin, you don’t want the edges to crack when your rolling it. Just trust you pan and let it do its thing and make sure not to skimp on icing because who even are you if you do?
2. Pumpkin Bread
I love pumpkin bread—I mean, who doesn’t? It satisfies the sweet craving while subtly indulging your fall flavor pallet. Pumpkin bread can really differ depending on what recipe you use, although the one associated with the picture above is delish, but you can also go a little simpler. My mom taught me this recipe and to this day, I make it roughly 10 times each fall. I could honestly eat a whole loaf in a day (or hour, but who is counting). All you need is a store bought box of pumpkin bread and a can of pumpkin puree. Mix it together till it is thick—you can always add a little water if you want. It will come out nice and moist, and it was only made using two ingredients.
3. Apple Crisp
Who doesn’t love a good crisp, and when it's paired with apple, you can’t beat that. Let’s stray away from the pumpkin and shine some light on the apple flavor.
Apple crisp can be super easy to make while seeming like it took hours. One tip I have for you is to add a little extra crisp, so make extra. It's honestly the star of the show (sorry apples). The dish as a whole goes together so perfectly, you never know when to stop eating it. It is best served straight from the oven so it is warm. Add some ice cream on top and watch the perfection pair together; it's a match made in heaven.
4. Roasted Butternut Squash
To stray away from the sweets, let’s move on to some vegetables. Butternut squash is in season during fall and it is so delicious. I love it roasted—the flavor is so simple, yet so perfect that you can't go wrong with this favorite. It is great served as a side dish which is why my family always has it at Thanksgiving. Just follow the recipe and it will turn out perfect.
5. Pumpkin Seed Brittle
This stuff is incredibly addictive—once you try it, you’ll never be able to put it down. It is simple and easy to make and the preparation time goes by seemingly fast! It is a great thing to bring to parties, but it is also a really great snack idea. You can throw it in a Ziploc and go on your merry way and snack on it later. Delicious and simple, what’s better than that?
No matter the recipe or the occasion, bring the fall festivity into your life. Share these memories with friends and family and you'll know what brings people together the most in the world—food. I gave you a five-idea head start into making great memories, and maybe even traditions, that you can keep for years to come. So try something new, you never know, you could love it.
