Tired of studying and need a break? I have multiple solutions that will make you forget about how stressed you are or how much homework you have. First things first: never try to cram in six hours of homework without a break. Most people think that they don't have time for breaks, including me. Throughout the course of my freshman year of college and the beginning of my sophomore year, I have come to realize that study breaks are definitely beneficial.
Here are some easy, quick and fun ways to spend time by yourself or with friends.
- Take a half-hour or so when the sun is going down and watch the sunset. This is a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Allow yourself to take in the moment and to clear your head of any homework or stressed-related activities.
- Treat yourself to ice cream or something savory and delicious that you normally wouldn’t have. My weakness is cookie dough ice cream and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Now, this might not be the healthiest option, but it sure is a yummy one.
- An easy, priceless break is to spend time with friends, catching up about the weekend or anything that's going on. I know I get busy with homework and barely have time to talk to my friends during the week. I have learned to squeeze in some time each day, mostly during study breaks. This is definitely a great way to stay in touch!
- Exercising is a healthy and quick way to forget about the piles of homework that you still have to do for the next day. Some people exercise for an hour or more, but exercising for 30 minutes will work as well. Working out is an active way to get the blood flowing through your body, which will allow you to think more clearly.
- Read something that's interesting to you. This could be an article, a book, a magazine, etc. — anything that is different than what you are studying or reading for homework. Read for roughly 20-30 minutes and then get back to studying.
These are just a couple ways to de-stress and enjoy 20-30 minutes of something that you love to do before going back to studying.
