There’s one in every group, and in my group of friends it just happens to be me. I wouldn’t have ever even thought about it but my friends would always say, “Okay mom” or quite literally, “You’re such a mom.” So one day I made them tell me how I got this title, and they didn’t hesitate to start spitting out reasons.
1. You make everyone buckle up in the car. Not only do you ALWAYS drive, but the first thing you do when you get in the car is make sure that everyone else is buckled. Because safety first, right?
2. You make sure all the lights are off before you leave the house. This may just be a pet peeve of mine, but if you're not home then you're lights don't need to be on. I mean you don't even have a dog? Unless you really believe that someone otherworldly possesses your house and needs the lights, it's really okay to turn them off. Why not save a few bucks?
3. "Let's just cook something tonight instead of going out to eat for the 10th meal in a row." Speaking of saving a buck. It's not because you're cheap, it's because there are better things that you can be spending your money on.. like clothes (case and point.)
4. You have to approve everyone's outfit for the night. This one, I know my friend's actually appreciate. It's always "Do you think this is cute?" "Should I wear this blue tank top, or this blue tank top?" "Is this too short?"(if you have to ask then yes), or my favorite "Can I just borrow something of yours?"
5. You're always the one that has a mental checklist to make sure everyone and everything is accounted for. This one is the glue that holds me and my friend's together. No one ever loses anything, because I always remind them that they don't need to leave their wallet at that boys house so they have a reason to go back, if he likes you he'll text you, and you’ll still have that $20 that someone would make off with.
They would be lost without me, and if that's what being the "mom" of the group means, then I'll be Mother Hen a few more years.
