Five Summer Struggles Everyone Knows Too Well

Okay but honestly, is a regulated sleep schedule a legit thing in the summer?

Summer is a spectacular time of the year. It's a time where we can catch up on things we lost track of during the other nine months of the year, a time to work and save for big plans you have coming after the summer season. But it is also a time where as hard as we all try to refresh ourselves, we still manage to not even get that right. Here are five summer struggles everyone knows too well.

1. Sleeping Schedules

After having an imperfect sleeping schedule during the academic year, when summer comes around I'm always confident I can work towards getting enough sleep and a pretty consistent sleep schedule. And every summer I am sorely mistaken. Some nights I get a decent amount of sleep, while most others are wasted staying up late watching YouTube videos or aimlessly scrolling through other social media sites like Instagram or Tumblr. Then when I wake up the next morning feeling exhausted and wanting to keep sleeping, I make an empty promise to myself that tonight I'll go to bed sooner.

2. Putting Off Things

During the summer there's a decent amount of free time to be had. I for one will make a mental list of things that need to get done as soon as possible, not really that I have a deadline for most of them, but the sooner the chores or what have you are completed, the sooner you can stop thinking about them. That's pretty much as far as that goes for me. Whenever I have time to get something done, I will usually prefer to just put it off for later and either do something else instead or nothing at all because I'm not in the mood to be productive. And that typically goes on for a few weeks until the chore eventually gets done.

3. Planning A Ton Of Things To Do/Places To Go

With beautiful weather occurring the majority of the season, of course, there are going to be plans made to utilize the time. However, another common summer struggle is learning that not everyone has the time or funds to pursue said plans. It's a huge bummer, but sometimes things have to get put off for another time.

4. Picking Up New Hobbies

I'm someone who uses Pinterest on occasion, usually if I'm desperately bored and looking for ideas on how to use my time. I've accumulated quite a few pins for things that look like they'd be fun to take a stab at, but whenever I have the time for them, I've suddenly lost interest or the motivation.

5. Netflix Vs. Real Life

It's pretty clear that summer is prime opportunity to go out and have new experiences in the real world, but it is also prime opportunity to stay inside an air conditioned house and binge watch new movies and TV series. And of course, depending on which one you choose could end up cycling you back to the first struggle on this list.

Summer, you're a wonderful, beautiful time of the year, but why oh why must you come with these struggles?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
