YouTube was created 11 years ago by three PayPal employees who wanted an easier way to share videos. Now, over 1 billion people use this website for their own enjoyment, to promote products and to get their voice out to the people. Some YouTuber's make millions of dollars each year, through ad revenue and the creation of sponsored videos. There are channels with millions of viewers, and the creators definitely deserve the popularity and wealth that comes with the hard work they put into their videos. However, some of the smaller YouTuber's don’t get the recognition they deserve. Here are a few YouTuber's that aren’t as popular, but I think everyone should be watching.
1. Dodie Clark
Dodie is a talented British YouTuber. She writes and performs her own songs on her channel. She is cheerful and funny, and always brightens my day. Sometimes her songs also feature her little sister, Heidy, who is talented at harmonizing and makes the videos even more fun to watch. Dodie also makes advice videos and creates a style lookbook every season, which is very entertaining. If you are looking for a pick-me-up, Dodie is the perfect YouTuber to watch.
2. Kaitlyn Alexander
Kaitlyn got her start in a different place on YouTube: a web show named Carmilla. She was not the star of the show but soon grew to be popular with the fans. She started making videos about her life on her own channel while also giving advice, and covering songs each week. She has also begun to produce her own web show called Couple-ish, which has become successful due to her support of her subscribers from her original channel and the fans of the web show Carmilla. She is a talented individual that has done a lot for the YouTube community.
3. Ashley Mardell
Ashley creates educational videos for the LGBT community. She has made many videos answering fan questions as well as defining terms and talking about issues that the LGBT community has to face. With her entertaining animations and her thoughtful videos, she has collected a faithful following of people who are eager to learn.
4. Sabrina Cruz
Sabrina is a teen who makes comedy videos on YouTube, usually centered around her take on everyday situations. She is currently a senior in high school, so it is entertaining to see her navigate her way into adulthood as she documents her life on YouTube. With her positive and somewhat sarcastic outlook on life, she has been a wonderful addition to my subscription box each week.
5. Rebecca Brown
Rebecca is a lovely British YouTuber that blogs not only about her life, but about her struggles with trichotillomania. This is rare for people on YouTube, who often want to make it seem like their lives are perfect. She talks about her mental health quite often, which is a refreshing change. She mostly talks about her own life, but also does haul videos with products from Lush and various clothing stores. She always has an optimistic outlook on whatever she’s facing and is very inspiring.
There are many fantastic YouTuber's out there, and these are just a few of the ones that I love to watch on a weekly basis. There are many YouTuber's that don’t receive the recognition they deserve, and I hope you find the ones right for you!
