The Five Shades of Sorority Girl

Living in the sorority house is one of the most entertaining and encouraging experiences you'll have in Greek Life. Going into my second year of Greek living, I've noticed that a few characters persist.

The Five Shades of Sorority Girl

While the common trends might vary from house to house, here's my observation of five types of sorority sister you might live with

The girl who has it together. She has never left a styrofoam cup on her desk or her straightener on the bathroom counter. Her closet is color coded and alphabetized by brand. She doesn't have public meltdowns after missing her 8 AM because she would never miss her 8 AM. She's most likely a Public Relations major with three minors who plans on graduating early. The sticky notes in her Erin Condren agenda are blueprints for her startup that will one day be her first Fortune 500 company.

The girl who's always studying. She's the smartest person you know and you want her to deliver your babies one day. She's pre-med, a leader in a handful of academic honors societies on campus, and you have no idea how she does it. No matter her major, if you have a homework question, she knows the answer or wrote the study guide in the test file.

The girl who's never studying. This is your go-to sister if it's your birthday, you haven't skipped class all week, or you have any other excuse to celebrate. She's the MNP MVP, hasn't missed a Thursday night since freshman year, and knows every bouncer in Five Points. She's the life of the party and makes every situation more fun, but tends to disappear to the basement of Thomas Cooper the last week of every semester when she calculates the minimum grade needed on her finals.

The girl who's always on the way to the gym. She has more cute workout clothes than Maria Sharapova and her messy sweat bun looks better than any hairstyle you've ever labored over. She'll become an instructor at Strom if she isn't already and when you realize eating midnight mozzarella sticks five days out of the week has finally caught up to your "really fast metabolism" she'll be your go-to motivator and gym buddy.

The girl who's usually panicking. You can always count on her to reassure you that yes, your current predicament is the end of the world and you're completely justified at flipping out over it. She's usually found with either the girl who's always studying (if there's a test in two weeks that she's absolutely going to fail) or with the girl who's never studying (if she's way too overwhelmed and she just has to not think about all this stress for a few hours.) She's one of the most supportive sisters you'll find, and if she survives this week she will be incredibly successful after graduation.

Honorable mentions: The girl who always gets dressed for class, the forever freshman, and the girl who has everything you need to borrow.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
