Five Reasons Why College Friends Make School Feel Like Home
Erin McCormac

Almost every high school senior counts down the days until they can leave for college. They dream of the day where they can make their own decisions, make new friends, and become a new person as they venture out into the world. Although college is an amazing experience, home sickness is extremely real and almost every college freshman will experience it. After two weeks of being on campus, one will eventually find friends that will be a part of their life forever. These friends will end up making your college experience unforgettable and allow you to be comfortable in your home away from home.

College friends are a constant support system.

No matter what is going on in your life, they will constantly support you. Living in a dorm allows your best friends to be right around the corner. You are able to talk to them about anything, whether it’s twelve in the afternoon or three in the morning. They may not always agree with your decisions, but they will always be there and allow you to express your feelings. They will reassure you, letting you know you’ll survive the week and that the weekend will make everything better.

We’re all on the same page.

After being with your friends for two weeks, you’ll know everything about them. You’ll know which guys are off limits, where to go to eat, and what parties to go to. You’ll know when they have class, what toppings they like on their pizza, and their favorite movies. You have inside jokes with each other, which constantly make you laugh throughout the day. You live in your own little world with your college friends so when you head home for break it just doesn't feel normal.

There is always more than one wardrobe to choose from.

Living on a floor with a bunch of girls means an abundant amount of clothes. Whether you need a cute cardigan for class, or a new shirt to go out in, they’ll have it. You will always find yourself raiding your friend’s closet for a new outfit, because you’ll probably get sick of your own clothes by the third week of college.

They are our parents and friends at the same time.

Everyone looks forward to making their own decisions at college, but sometimes we need someone to tell us when we’re making the wrong decisions. Whether it’s our friends telling us not to dance with that guy or to get sleep before a big exam, they’ll always have our backs. Although friends will always be right next to us making the same stupid decisions, they will always look out for us and make sure we don't embarrass ourselves.

They see us at our worst and at our best, but still love us.

College is full of many different emotions. Emotional breakdowns, long nights out, and bad decisions are just a few events that happen throughout school, but college friends are there through them all. The best part about college friends is that they have been in your position before, and love you more for it. College friends are also there for all of the great times. Good grades, great memories, long talks. Overall, college friends have seen us high and low but will always love of us for who we are.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
