The Five Days of Spring Break

The Five Days of Spring Break

This spring break, many of us were lucky enough to have our passports stamped or migrate towards whatever warmth and sunshine the U.S. has to offer. Now that spring break is over for most schools, it is time to allow the nostalgia to set in and reminisce about the five days we spent living it up in paradise.

On the first day of spring break

You pack your bags and catch your flight destined for some distant Land of Palm Trees and Piña Coladas.

You hop off the plane and sweat through your layers while you wait in the never-ending line at customs.

You somehow survive the line at Customs and start applying sunscreen or tanning oil before it's even time to hit the beach because you are ready to get your tan on.

At last, you get to hit the beach, but you probably fall asleep after one (or five) too many Bahama Mamas.

Since you fell asleep, you never reapplied that sunscreen, and you wake up more burnt than bronzed.

But it's okay because that burn will turn to a tan (hopefully).

Dinner rolls around and you eat twice your body weight, officially saying "adios" to that pre-spring break diet.

However, you quickly ward off any regrets you have regarding dinner as the first night's festivities roll around.

On the second day of spring break

You probably did not get back to the hotel until 5 a.m., thanks to last night's club escapades.

You may have lost your wallet, phone, passport, other items essential to your person.

And while you may not be able to re-enter the United States, let's be real -- you don't really want to leave Cabo, San Juan or Cancun, anyways.

You force yourself up and out into the light of day at 9:30 a.m. regardless of your late night because working on your tan always takes precedence.

So, you just sleep on the beach instead.

You wake up at about 4 p.m. and hit the pool bar.

You realize with an overwhelming sense of dread that yes, once again, you forgot to reapply that sunscreen.

But it's okay because once you get to the club that night, your scorched skin is the last thing you are worried about.

On the third day of spring break

You realize you have yet to hit the resort gym.

You mourn the loss of the suitcase space that was designated for your spandex and running shoes.

But you quickly get over it.

Then, once again, nap on the beach, eat twice your body weight, go out, sleep for a couple of hours, repeat.

On the fourth Day of spring break

You definitely did not get up before noon to seize the day.

And when you finally do make it to the beach at 2 p.m. you refuse to take any pictures, taking into account your complete disregard for any type of diet or exercise.

And, for the fourth and last time, nap on the beach, eat twice your body weight, club-hop, and get a couple hours of sleep.

Finally, on the last day of spring break

You definitely did not make it to the beach.

Nor were you interested in breakfast.

And if you were lucky, maybe you caught your flight in time.

Alas, you may be feeling far from well-rested and yearning for a post-vacation vacation. As our tans begin to fade and we are left with nothing but our memories of a great week with great friends, let's try not to catch a case of the post-spring break blues and, instead, choose to appreciate the fun that we had.

With that being said, cheers to beautiful beaches, frozen drinks, and over-sized shades. It has been fun, spring break 2015. We look forward to the time that we will meet once again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
