The New Fitness App You Should Download: Charity Miles

An app that makes donating to charity as easy as putting one foot in front of the other.

The New Fitness App You Should Download: Charity Miles

You know the phrase, "there is an app for that"? Well if you haven't already heard of it, let me introduce you to the app Charity Miles.

Charity Miles is a smartphone application that donates money to a charity of your choice every time you run, walk, or bike. It uses money through corporate sponsorships to donate for every mile that you log.

For runners and walkers it donates 25 cents per mile, and for bikers it donates 10 cents per mile.

How cool is that? Not only do you get to work out, but you also do something to help others at the same time! It even sends you an email after every workout for encouragement.

My favorite part about the app is that my sorority's philanthropy, Girls On the Run, is one of the charity choices! So even just doing something as mundane as walking across campus can help raise money for my favorite organization.

The app really makes it so easy to make a difference and be philanthropic. It also has charities for just about every cause out there. If there is something that you are passionate about, they most likely have it.

It also allows you to change which charity you want to support with every workout, so you can contribute to multiple causes! Here is the full list of charities that the app supports:

  • Operation Smile
  • Stand Up to Cancer
  • Every Mother Counts
  • Wounded Warrior Project
  • Alzheimer's Association
  • Feeding America
  • The National Park Foundation
  • The World Food Programme
  • World Wildlife Fund
  • The Michael J. Fox Foundation
  • The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
  • ASPCA
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
  • Autism Speaks
  • Team Red, White, & Blue
  • Girls On The Run
  • DoSomething.Org
  • The Nature Conservatory
  • Pencils of Promise
  • Special Olympics
  • Girl Up
  • (RED)
  • Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America
  • Team For Kids
  • She's The First
  • Soles4Souls
  • Nothing But Nets
  • Back On My Feet
  • Shot@Life
  • The Partnership for A Healthier America
  • Achilles International
  • The Ironman Foundation
  • Vision Spring

Another great feature of the app is that it allows you to create teams! For example, since my sorority's philanthropy is one of the choices, we created a team and are able to see who logs the most miles.

It creates a "Top 25 Leaderboard" that tells you who has done how many miles, and does a mileage total for the whole team. This feature is awesome because it allows for friendly competition while supporting a great cause.

I encourage everyone to download this app on their smartphone, and together we can help make a positive impact in our world!

It is available through the Apple app store and the Google play store.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
