5 Things You're Going To Miss About Summer
Highlander News

Although the summer heat is still here, summer is over. The books are opening, campus is getting packed, and the endless reading begins. The first few weeks back to school are always the hardest--having to get out of bed, get to class, sit through the lecture and do the endless homework that comes with the crazy school schedule that you are forced to get used to. The school year comes with added pressers, challenges, and new experiences some fun and some that you learn from. By now as a junior you think I would have college figured out... but the truth is I don't. There are for sure at least five things about summer you will miss!

1. No Studying: Before you know it midterms and finals will be here...yes I know school just started but trust me 15 weeks will fly bye. If the studying for you hasn't started consider yourself lucky! Instead of just laying outside in the sun, being on the lake with friends you will be gathered around a table with books open!

2. Late Wake Ups: For some reason in the middle of the semester 9 a.m. doesn't seem early but at the begging it is like a death trap! it is defiantly early to those of you that would sleep until 11 a.m. or even 1 p.m. Kiss those days goodbye!

3. Rush Hour: During the summer those of you that commute back and forth from school did not have to worry about rush hour and if you did have to you could at least plan your activities somewhat around it! Welcome back to scheduling in traffic time into your daily schedule.

4. The Weather: With fall comes a change of seasons. But the real change of season is winter. Some people hate winter and some love it. But I think we can all agree walking around campus in the snow is not something you want to do.

5. Home Cooked Meals: No matter if you live on campus or you commute your home cooked meals are definitely going to get cut down. Say hello to eating out, campus food or attempting to cook for yourself!

Happy back to school!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
