8 Stages Of Moving Back To College

Summer vacation is great; seeing family you haven't seen all semester, loving on your pets, and seeing friends at home. While you're enjoying the luxury of not having to write papers or read chapters, you may find yourself missing aspects of living on campus. Especially when your university has trimesters and you go back home for the summer one and every one is still there having parties, hanging out, and reminiscing. There are definitely stages you go through when going back to campus for the fall, so here are some of them that you will experience!

1. Arriving back on campus with anticipation.

You cannot wait to get back to the study hangouts, group dinners, and parties. The anticipation of getting back together with school friends, new classes, and moving back into the dorms or apartments makes the fall so exciting.

2. Adjusting to a new schedule.

Its not all just sleeping in and naps now! 8 am classes and all nighters will become frequent and your body will have to adjust. The first couple of weeks will be filled with coffee and grogginess, time to get back accustomed to getting up early.

3. Missing home cooking.

The cafeteria has nothing on home cooking. The empty calories and fat just slows you down, and there is nothing like a home style pick me up hand made plates give you. The initial cafeteria splurge on the hot food line, salad bar, and soda will leave you feeling worse than the lack of sleep has already made you feel. You will definitely enjoy a homemade plate of food the second you come back to visit.

4. Missing your pets.

Theres nothing like walking in the door and receiving a shower of kisses from your pet. When at college you tend to be extremely puppy or kitty starved. When you come across the occasional pup being walked on campus, students retreat to get their furry fix. Especially when you have a puppy at home and you know they are going to not be so little the next time you will be back, you cherish the fuzzy love from them.

5. Seeing someone you don't particularly like in your earliest class.

Over the summer you can escape those that you don't enjoy the presence of, but when you get to class and see them it can make your mornings more interesting.

6. You get so excited for the first party back.

For the whole summer you might have missed get togethers, but the beginning of school parties are great. Its getting a bearable temperature outside and its perfect for late nights at a friend's house. The excitement of seeing everyone again is enough to get you through that first week of classes.

7. Already questioning when your parents are coming up to visit.

It's not just because paying for your own groceries is difficult, but it is pretty great to go on a shopping spree and get those Oreos. You also will miss them, you spent all summer with them and in the same way you missed your school friends, you might miss the company of your parents.

8. Writing your first paper since being back.

After a whole summer of relaxing, you might have a bit of writers block. You might be a little rusty at first but taking time to focus and plan ahead will definitely help you crank out one of your best papers ever, and allow you to start the semester off strong!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
