A Pfeiffer Student's First Week Journal

The first week from my perspective.

Day one (Wednesday):

I made a poor choice choosing a class at 8 in the morning. I am not fully awake and I have no desire to get out of bed, why can't it still be Christmas break? I should get someone to make my coffee and breakfast in the morning so I don't have to get up as early. Is coffee and food really worth getting up early for? Hmmm, yes, yes it is. You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Well, classes weren't much fun. We have a new organic chemistry professor from Costa Rica, he seems pretty cool. Being back to the cafe food sure hasn't been a highlight of coming back. It's the first day back for the semester and I already have homework and reading to do! These professors are crazy I swear, I'm not ready for this yet.

Day two (Thursday):

Actually got to sleep in today, that was nice. Children's literature was a great class, sure will be easy. Still searching for a personal coffee maker so anyone who wants to may apply now! Also, a new job position is being offered as well. I am now hiring a personal chef, just make food that is better than the cafe and we will be okay. My nighttime class was pretty horrible. Well, not all that bad, just bad because it's a six-hour class...other than that it should be a great class. RA duty tonight means I won't get too much sleep and I have my 8 am again tomorrow. I need that coffee maker now more than ever!

Day three (Friday):

Waking up for the 8am class was no easier than the first day. Although, it is Friday so that is an upside for sure! I was real disappointed that there was no coffee or breakfast ready for me when I woke up. I'm going to have to talk to someone about that. The cafe had chicken tenders today though, that was pretty hype. I think I'm most excited about getting some good sleep tonight more than anything. Other good news for today, had a FaceTime date with Jordan, that was a highlight of the week! Already miss her and it hasn't even been that long yet. The people above me are playing music so loud that it's rattling my ceiling...how can they even hear themselves think? Midnight and they finally turned the music off, what a relief! Well, the first week of school is over...hope the next few weeks goes by fast and isn't too hard.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
