First Day of the Second Semester

It's the worst.

First Day of the Second Semester

Going back to college after Christmas break is the worst. You didn't have to do literally anything and now you're expected to carry on life as a functioning human being. No more 10 am wake-ups, 1 pm naps (okay well maybe), or late nights chilling on Tumblr without a care in a world. You actually got to read fun books, catch up on your shows, and finally start that life-long sad memoir about how you are trying to function as a human person. I've done some research in my highly scientific lab known as my dorm room and here are my conclusive thoughts:

1. Oh my God no.

2. Today is the day.

3. I actually have to do things.

4. This is the worst.5. Is it too late to fake my own death?

6. Probably, I didn't even write a will yet.

7. Do 20-year-olds even write wills?

8. Not like I actually have stuff.

9. Shoot I have 10 minutes to get ready.

10. Remember when you used to look so good for the first day of school? LOL.

11. They're lucky I even showered last night.

12. Okay if I make it out of here now I can find a seat not in the complete back but not in the over-eager front.

13. Where did I put that shirt I wanted to wear?

14. Oh God what's that smell? Is that me???

15. Whatever, I'll just put some perfume on.

16. I have to run and I have to run now.

17. I could so be an Olympic speed-walker at this rate.

18. I probably look like a panting dog but at least I'm a hot panting dog.

19. Wow I'm so complimentary towards myself this morning. That's probably because I self-consciously know I'm walking into the gates of a mini hell.

20. Seriously, why can't we have college without grades? I would like college a lot more if I didn't have to worry about my G.P.A. all of the time.

21. NO. NO. NOT THE STAIRS. NO.

22. Do I have time to get to the elevator? Will people judge me for taking the elevator one flight? Probably. Do I really care though?

23. No time I have to take the stairs.

24. WHAT WAS I THINKING THIS IS THE WORST.

25. Is it legal to have stairs this narrow? Is there even a limit to how many stairs one can have? Because this definitely exceeds it.

26. Okay, I made it with minimal complaining/crying. Today is going to be a great day.

27. HOW IS EVERYONE HERE SO EARLY?

28. Wait did I even bring a pencil?

29. FRIENDS!!! I SEE FRIENDS!!!

30. Alright, new year, new me. I'm so going to take great notes this semester. 4.0 here I come.

31. Okay, wait, lower those expectations, girl.

32. That wasn't so bad! This semester is going to be the best semester ever!

33. *gets to next class* what was I even thinking.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
