The ASU Football Analysis: First Game Experience Of 2018

First off, let me just say as a freshman, I thought I was prepared for what was in store for my first college football game as a student... I was not. As the team stormed onto the field the only word that can describe it is deafening. I kid you not, I could literally feel the stadium vibrating beneath me as the wave of students draped in gold behind me that make up The Inferno lost their minds for the dawn of a new football season. The feeling was like no other that I've experienced before, and trust me I've been to a lot of football games.

Now, for the actual gameplay. The Sun Devils started off very strong and swiftly with QB Manny Wilkins connecting with WR N'Keal Harry on the first drive of the game within the first couple minutes. Then, 30 seconds later, DL Shannon Forman nabs the ball right out of the air and runs it in for the pick 6, giving him the first Piesman Trophy of the year. That made it two touchdowns in the first two minutes of the game. If that doesn't rile your crowd up at the first game of the season then I don't know what will. Safe to say it set the tone for the rest of the game as the Sun Devil's defense controlled the Roadrunners offensive play. Although, ASU would lose Safety Jalen Harvey in the first half of the game due to a targeting call, which I personally completely disagree with, but whatever what's done is done. Sun Devils up 28-0 at the half.

The second half the Sun Devils tried their run-game a bit more, utilizing RB Eno Benjamin who powered his way through the Roadrunner defense to make some great running plays and score us some more TD's. Backup QB, Dillon Sterling-Cole, paired up with backup RB Isaiah Floyd to contribute to the scoreboard. Oh yeah, and N'Keal Harry completely split the entire Roadrunner defense in about a 70-yard play, I mean just give him the Heisman Trophy already.

Two people I feel bad for the UTSA Roadrunners Football Team because they lost 42-7 (but only a little bit because they were trash-talking before the game), and Sparky because of all the pushups he had to for each one of those touchdowns made. The problems that I saw arising from the Sun Devils was the plethora of penalties the team had. Coach Edwards explained in a post-game interview that there are a lot of things that they have to work on in preparing to face Michigan State in the following week, but for now, time to celebrate Coach Herm Edwards first collegiate victory.

Overall, the experience from a student point of view was pure excitement. I would urge anyone who is hesitant about attending a football game at ASU to do so, trust me you won't regret it. The camaraderie felt between all students, faculty members, and players is unrivaled. From an analytic standpoint though, it is clear the Sun Devils have a lot of work to do for this season. Playing a team that has internal problems with their own offense and defense is one thing, but when going up against Pac-12 powerhouses later in the season like USC, Stanford, Washington, and Oregon, then they need to be able to keep disciplined thus not to give up silly penalties like false starts, delays of game, and illegal formations. Now, all the spotlight is on next Saturday when the Sun Devils face the Spartans and see who rises victorious.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
