On Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, the lineup for the fifth anniversary of Firefly Music Festival was released.

Every year, thousands of festival-goers flock to “The Woodlands” for four days of concerts in Dover, Del. Miles of campsites sprawl out around Dover Downs, filled with music lovers from all over the country. Past lineups have included such headliners as Paul McCartney, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, The Killers, Foo Fighters and so many more.

This year’s headliners are Kings of Leon (back from a cancelled show due to weather last year), Mumford and Sons, Deadmau5 and Florence and the Machine. These four have incited considerable unrest among Firefly fans, who expected the fifth anniversary to feature a bigger name. Fan threads predicted The Rolling Stones or Coldplay to follow Paul McCartney’s incredible performance of 2015.

However, the 2016 lineup is not to be overlooked. There may not be a singular headlining act, but a second look at the list reveals a number of underrated names that make this year’s lineup considerably interesting. Blink-182, for instance, will draw so many punk rock lovers of the early 2000s for whom "All the Small Things" is a lifetime anthem. Earth, Wind & Fire is another pleasant surprise; their notorious performance at Bonnaroo Music Festival last year has made them even more of a must-see.

Artists like Of Monsters and Men, Elle King, Chvrches, Death Cab for Cutie and so many more prove that Firefly 2016 is a rounded, multi-genre group of bands with an excellent blend of the up-and-coming and the well-known. No single day between June 16 and June 19 of 2016 is going to be worse than the rest.

The first price tier of tickets for Firefly went on sale Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, and will increase on December 31. If you’re looking for a weekend of amazing music, minimal sleep and hundreds of new friends fist-pumping in unison, buy yours as soon as you can -- Firefly is an experience you cannot miss.
