So, the past election was one for the history books. Of course, under the heading "2016" in Houghton Mifflin's book, it's probably just going to read "Can we not?"
I mean, Harambe was shot, we lost Alan Rickman, Nat "King" Cole, Prince, and David Bowie, 49 people were killed in a hate-crime shooting in Orlando, Donald Trump was elected president, and the KKK is still a thing for some reason.
We can all agree that 2016 was some kind of curse that Pandora's box itself couldn't even have unleashed. What happened to the apocalypse in 2012? Who messed that up?
But not all of it was total garbage. For instance:
1. My friend had a baby.
He's literally the cutest thing and I love him so much. Look at that face? How can you not love him??
2. A woman was nominated as the presidential candidate for a major party for the first time!
Whether or not you like her, HRC's nomination put a huge crack in the glass ceiling. #GirlPower
3. Global child mortality is going down all the time!
That one is pretty self-explanatory.
4. 500 elephants were relocated, and now lead better and safer lives!
Woohoo! Elephants! Being safe and happy! What could be better??
5. Harriet Tubman will be the new face of the $20 bill!
Harriet Tubman, a brave ex-slave woman helped many slave escape to the north via the Underground Railroad, is replacing the president who facilitated the Trail of Tears in the late 1830s.
6. Our boy, Leo, finally won his Oscar!
FINALLY!!! THIS MAN DESERVED IT!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!
7. "Deadpool" came out.
What a great movie. It's so well-written and funny and Ryan Reynold is 10/10.
8. "Hamilton"
This show, which depicts the life of Alexander Hamilton, swept the nation. It won 11 Tony awards and actually made me cry. Do you know how hard it is to make me cry?
9. The Ozone Layer is repairing itself!
We're not going to die!
10. 70,000 Muslim clerics declared a fatwa against ISIS
While ISIS has had a major presence in the world as of late, they are not a representation of the Muslim faith. To prove that, 70,000 Muslim clerics declared a fatwa, which basically means that they are denouncing them.
