I am a shy person. I need my space, I like my space, and I enjoy times to myself to recharge and what not. At home, privacy is so much easier to get. I just go to my room, and that’s that. I close my door and boom. Solitude. But seeing as I dorm on campus, I’ve had to discover places where I can get some privacy to myself. Here are some places and things I do for some privacy.
(Spoiler alert: A lot of them involve food places because eating is a great way to unwind and relax yourself).
- Learn Your Roommates Schedules—If you know when your roommate or roommates are going to be out, you know when to stay in thus giving you privacy in the one place you probably seek it the most—your room.
- Wake Up Early—I know this sounds annoying or a hassle but honestly if you want to chill by yourself get off your lazy butt and go get some early breakfast.
- Take Long Showers—No one is going to bother you in there. Take. Your. Time. (But I mean don’t exaggerate either, they might need to pee).
- Eat Upstairs—If you’re eating at Monty’s go upstairs. I find people are often lazy to climb up the stairs in case they want to get more food. (Thank you lazy peeps.)
- Go to DAC for Dinner—You know who eats at DAC for dinner? The DAC employees. And maybe a couple commuters or people who have a taco craving.
- Go to the Library—I lie. I can’t guarantee the library won’t be packed with people, but it never hurts to check it.
- Check out Marillac on the Weekends—It’s a ghost town. Especially once Dunkin Donuts closes for the day—it’s scarily empty. But the perfect place to do homework or Skype family.
- Close Your Bedroom Door—At the end of the day, your room is your room no matter where you are. If you’re lucky your roommates like to hang out in the common area or are super involved leaving you the perfect place of privacy: your room.
When living on campus, privacy is limited. But it’s not impossible. You can find spots to chill out and have a moment to yourself. Of course now I’m probably going to have to find new places since I've told you all my secrets but I’m sure there’s enough space to go around!
