Finding A Peace Of Mind

You have more power than you think.

At the most difficult times, you might think that your entire world is falling apart, that coming to terms with what's going on seems far-fetched and infeasible.

Well, let me tell you something. Your brain is playing tricks on you. You have more power than you think you have.

As humans, we are incapable of being in the state of happiness for too long. We were created to be emotional beings. If someone tells you that you shouldn't be feeling a type of way about a situation, they are wrong, my dear.

When you are feeling an emotion, express it hard. When you are feeling devastated and sad, carry that cloud above you until you are ready to face the truth and shift your perspective.

When you are feeling confused, sit in that perplexed state until you have enough ambition to search for answers. By being on a train of thought, you will soon be able to weigh out the possible outcomes of the situation you're going through.

When you are feeling anxious, hold it in until you are shaking with fear. Learn what makes your heart overwork and then figure out what you can do to tranquilize the nerves. The anxiety might not ever go away, but there are ways to tame them.

When you are stressed out, feel it until you are urged enough to face the unknown head-on. Your worst enemy can be yourself at times, so you need to know when to take a couple of breaths and be brave. If you didn't become overwhelmed once in a while, that would just mean you're careless.

Most of all, when you are happy and content, shine. Shine like hell because you deserve it. You are allowed to be happy. Let me just put this here that happiness doesn't stem from purchasing materialistic items, nor does it come from meeting your soulmate.

Happiness comes from you. Yes, it is in you and only you.

I'm not saying others can't bring you joy. I'm saying you shouldn't depend on others to bottle-feed you cheer.

All flowers grow from dirt, so if you can build a firm inner foundation, you can plant seeds everywhere and grow from within. You have the power to be happy. You just have to accept that.

You might not have control over the events that unfold in your lifetime, but you do have the control to change how you feel about any given situation. Be optimistic and open-minded to the universe and it will show you love back.

Just remember to relax and keep focusing on what is really important.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
