Most mornings, I wake up and check my phone. I scroll through the copious amounts of Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook news that I missed during the night. These past few months all that I have read about is "Hillary did this," "Trump did that," blah blah blah. I am very exhausted with this election season, and the divide it's causing is troublesome. This morning as I was starting a new chapter in my devotional life I was reminded of something so beautiful that I had to write about it. I was reminded that we are chosen, and no matter what political party you belong to, or who you're voting for come Tuesday, we are chosen by God to be His people.
The book of Ephesians is kind of like this "survival guide" to Christianity as some may call it. This morning while reading through Chapter 1 verses 1-14 I was shown three beautiful truths.
1. We can live with assurance.
Salvation begins in God. He sought us when we didn't seek Him, and he still does this every single day. In John 3: 37-39 it says "All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day." We can be assured that He is FOR us.
2. We can have hope.
We can face trials bravely, because we know that God is for us. He harnessed everything in our lives, and our lives can get pretty messy. In fact this world is pretty messy, but we can have hope that God gives us strength to face the things that are scary and messy. We are chosen and he gives us the free will to be drawn to him and have hope in the gospel and what He has done for us.
3. We can live Boldly.
Now that we know we are chosen by God to live for God we can witness the gospel to others. It is our job to share the good news and to shine His light through us with every single encounter we make.
That is why this election season is so exhausting. I feel as though a lot of us have forgotten who we were chosen by and what He has done for us. So whoever wins, and whatever you feel remember that you can be assured in God's salvation, you can have hope that this is part of his plan and that we can face whatever happens because we have Him, and we need to start living more boldly in our faith. We must proclaim the gospel in all ways and I fall short of this often. I pray that our country can come together as one remembering that we are Chosen, and that we are to love one another despite this messy world.
Have a blessed week!
