Can't Find Your Soul Mate? You're Probably A Twin

It seems like my generation is constantly on a quest to find their soul mate these days. After a lot of searching, I'm beginning to wonder if I've already found mine. If you are lucky enough to have a twin sister, take a look at these reasons why you can stop looking, too.

1. You text each other random questions because you know they will have the right answer.

What does the smell of raspberry bubblegum make you think of? What does the sound of squeaky rain boots remind you of? Yes, you realize these are the most random, insignificant questions, but you’d be surprised how well you both know the answers. You both just understand each other, no questions asked.

2. You aren’t automatic best friends.

Most people think twins are just instant best friends without even trying, but you know that’s not the case. You have to put time, effort and compassion into your relationship to keep it as strong as ever. Even though you might not live under the same roof when you get older, you try to stay as up to date as possible so it's like you never left.

3. You are convinced you love them more than a normal sibling should...

There is just something about growing up with someone for your entire life. You are with each other every step of the way and experience life at the same time. It’s pretty incredible and can makes you that much closer. When people ask if you ever get into arguments you will probably have to sit and think about it for awhile before you actually come up with something.

4. You forget that you are two different people.

If you ever uttered the phrase “we have no one to play with” when you were younger, then you know what I’m talking about. You get so used to being together that sometimes you forget you are your own person. Hey, no complaints about having your best friend with you at all times though.

5. You don’t need to visit friends over college breaks.

Although it’s nice to catch up with friends, you can’t help that your best friend lives under the same roof as you. You never need an excuse to get out of the house or have a friend to talk to – she’s right there. Whether you sit and watch Lifetime movies all afternoon or actually leave the house, you'll always have a good time with each other.

6. You trust them with the real you.

You can share every thought that goes through your head with your twin and have no fear of upsetting them, or getting judged for any reason. It’s an unspoken rule you are both there for each other no matter what (and will sit there an go through screen shots of Instagram filters to find the right one even when you live hours apart).

7. When they hurt, you hurt.

You’ve probably lost track of the people who you don’t even know but hate because they hurt your other half. You might even dislike them more than your twin does, but that’s just your job.

8. They make you a better version of yourself.

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I see so much good in my twin. She has the kindest heart, gentlest soul and is one of the funniest people I have ever met. She is beautiful inside and out, and doesn’t give herself enough credit for the beyond amazing girl she is. I cannot even begin to thank her for the outlook she has given me on life and the part of my soul she has touched that makes me who I am.

9. Your own birthday makes you a little sad.

To most people, a birthday is an exciting day all about them, but when your twin is far away, it takes a little bit of the magic away. You’ll definitely be thinking about your twin when you blow out those birthday candles.

Happy 22nd birthday, Em! Thanks for not only being the best twin sister out there, but for being my person in all of these ways and more.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
