I grew up on "One Tree Hill." I recently re-watched all of the seasons, and the magic was there just like the first time. This time, I watched it through a different lens. I looked more into the depth of the characters. I looked for the "whys" rather than just being captured by all of the surprises and drama.
For starters, living in One Tree Hill really is a teen's dream... or my dream, at least. It appeared to be perfect. Every character was adventurous, fun loving, kind, loyal, spontaneous and most of all, cared about one another in their incredible community. While most girls' teen crush is the one and only Lucas Scott, I was always a Nathan Scott girl - even from the beginning when he was the worst. I loved Lucas, yeah, but Nathan always stood out to me.
I think the reason for this is because Nathan did not begin as the "perfect romantic" like Lucas. He was a typical high school jerk. He was no fairy-tale, which I think made him more relatable. While it was fun to watch Lucas sweep girls off their feet with his incredible charm, it was also so interesting to watch Nathan grow. I could write all day about this. I called from the beginning that Nathan would be the most influential character.
Nathan first owned up to his past actions. He made amends with all of his enemies and went after the girl he thought was too good for him. He then became someone who was too good for most. He became humble, kind, fun and probably one of the most responsible and respectful characters on the show. It was so rewarding to watch him make a total 360.
What is your equivalent of "One Tree Hill"? If it was not this show, for you I'm sure you can think of one show that caused you to dream bigger or want finer things. Isn't that the purpose of movies, books or shows? To force us to dream or create? Not every guy is a Lucas Scott, that's for sure. They're nice and all, but you're going to come across a lot of Nathans in this world. Today, look for a season 4 Nathan. It's much more rewarding to have someone to grow with and someone who wants to grow and change for you. I'm telling you, any underdog has a lot of potential.
