An Open Letter To Finals Week

Thanks for being a royal pain in our a**.

An Open Letter To Finals Week

Dear Finals Week,

The three weeks of classes between Thanksgiving and Christmas break that lead up to you are undoubtedly the most stressful, crammed, anxiety-induced weeks of the fall semester. We scram around to finish papers, assignments and semester projects in the two weeks before you, and then you, the most dreaded week of all, hit us like freight train.

The amounts of stress and worrying you bring to us causes an estimated 73 percent of college students to get approximately three new wrinkles on their forehead. You cause us to binge eat junk food, bit off our nails and many sleepless nights. You fill the library with students on the verge of tears who seriously contemplate dropping out. You may be the only week that makes the entire college population question if college is really worth it and cry for an entire week straight.

So many assignments, so little motivation. As much as we have to do, we will still procrastinate until your due dates are closer than we realize. All motivation is gone by this point in the semester, yet you ask so much of us. We are 60 percent tired, 35 percent over the semester and 5 percent motivation to finish out the semester strong. You prolong our time away from us being home in our own beds and eating homemade food.

You are currently the vain of our existence. Your due dates may be been set for months, but like that bad grade we got on an assignment or test weeks ago, you are easily ignored. You make us want to continuously drown our sorrows in handles upon handles of alcohol. We just want you to know that we despise you and deeply dread you every semester. We really can wait to see you at the end of the spring semester.

Sincerely,

Sleep-Deprived, Stressed-Out, Cranky-As-Hell College Students Everywhere

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
