As we all come back to school and wake up from our turkey induced coma, we all start to realize how much work lies between us and our much needed Christmas break. The semester is drawing to a close and as we look back at all the work we have accomplished this semester, we realize how ridiculous it is that we still have so much work ahead of us. That's right, it's finals season, and it's time to freak out.
Normally, the common question "how are you?" is answered with a simple "I'm great!" or "Oh, I'm fine", however around finals season, the answer is simply answered with grunts, moans, and sighs. You can see the bags growing heavier and heavier under each person's eyes as the days go by, and campus always seems to be just that much more gloomy. The library is full, the caffeine is flowing, and everyone is silently crying over their laptops as they drown in project after project, paper after paper. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, where Christmas presents, warm beds, and hours of sleep dances and tempts you endlessly, but that light is currently so small, it seems almost unbelievable. But for now, you are stuck in the darkness of ten to fifteen page papers, incredibly long and overly complicated final projects, and the piles upon piles of study materials needed for every evil final test that is lurking around the corner.
However, that light is there, it may seem incredibly small now, but it's there. In a few weeks, we will all be at home with our families, celebrating the holidays, sleeping for ridiculous amounts of time in our warm and cozy beds. We will be stuffing our faces with home cooked meals and enjoying the mental break that comes with the end of fall semester. However unbelievable, those moments are there, right around the corner, waiting to hug you and bring you out of the darkness that is finals and into the loving light that is winter break.
For all of us out there struggling through this year's finals season, I just want you all to know, you can do it. You will fight through all those papers, you will tackle all those projects, you will destroy all those final exams. You will soon fight your way out of the dark finals slump and triumphantly arrive to the light on the other side, winter break. I know it's hard, I know you're tired, I know all you want to do is smash your laptop, never read a book again, and spend a few hours curled up in the fetal position crying, but I promise, you will get through it. Just grab your coffee, find a secluded spot in the library, put your headphones in, and get it all done. You can do it.
