Finals: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

Finals week has finally arrived, and as we unwillingly march into a week of hell, it’s important to stay charged. Whether you have an ungodly amount of essays, projects, exams, or a combination of all three, if you’re anything like the average college student, you’re probably less than prepared. It seems like in order to have enough time to actually complete the workload, sleep might not fit into the equation this week. That usually means copious amounts of coffee, energy drinks, and extremely risky power naps. It can be daunting and overwhelming, and once you’ve reached “burn out,” it’s hard to come back. Coffee will keep you awake, but you need something to keep your spirits going. There’s nothing better than listening to the song that perfectly describes your current moment, so here are 20 songs about good, the bad, and the ugly of finals week.

1. Caffeine- Psychostick

Put headphones on, blast the volume, and it’s just like drinking a cup of coffee.

2. Totally F***ed- Spring Awaking

The finals week theme song.

3. A Cup of Coffee- Katy Perry

We could definitely use a cup of coffee too, Katy.

4. Eye of the Tiger- Survivor

It’s cliched, but if it can help you push through that work-out, it can help you push through that essay!

5. Motivation- Sum 41

Motivation is such as an aggravation. It’s hard to power through when you know it’ll all be over in a week, but when you get your grades the week before Christmas, you know it'll be worth it.

6. Confident- Demi Lovato

Just like Demi Lovato’s confident about her appearance and spreading body positivity, you can be just as confident about getting that 6 page essay you haven’t started in by midnight!

7. Wake Up-Hilary Duff

If you tell yourself you’re not tired long enough, maybe you’ll start to believe it.

8. Heaven Help Us- My Chemical Romance

For some assignments, you probably need a miracle to finish in time.

9. Cry- Kelly Clarkson

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a mini mental breakdown in the library in the middle of the night. We’ve all been there…

10. I’m Not Okay (I Promise)- My Chemical Romance

Pretty self explanatory.

11. Half Alive- Secondhand Serenade

It’s ok that we’re dying, but I need to survive tonight, so I can finish that project that’s due at 8am tomorrow.

12. Time Is Of The Essence- Galavant (feat. Reece Shearsmith)

It’s the final countdown: You have 1 hour and 13 minutes to bang out 3 more pages, and every second matters.

13. The Lazy Song- Bruno Mars

It’s you’re only day when nothing’s due. You could get a head start on your assignments due on Friday, but then again, you could finally catch up on your favorite Netflix show.

14. Bodies- Drowning Pool

If you’re about to fall asleep, listen to this one. Taking a short walk while someone’s screaming in your ear is a great way to wake up, even if it’s only temporary sleep-deprived jitters.

15. Heroes- David Bowie

There’s just something about this song that gets you pumped and ready to take on the world.

16. Because I’m Awesome- Bowling For Soup

For when you finished 2 essays, 1 project, and studied for your final in one night, you deserve to bask in your awesome-ness.

17. Asleep- The Smiths

For when it’s 4am and you decide to take a 20 minute nap in the library, and you wake up to students getting their morning coffee.

18. We’re All in this Together- High School Musical

There’s nothing that brings people together more than a shared feeling of sleep-deprived panic and overwhelmed stress.

19. Ready To Go- Panic! At the Disco

Listen to this right before walking into a final, and you’ll be ready to Ace it! And if you’ve been awake long enough and have completely messed up your sleep schedule, it might feel like nine in the afternoon.

20. You’ll Be Okay- A Great Big World

Just remember, it'll all be ok, and you'll be home for the holidays in just a few days!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
