Classes have ended, cramming has been done, exams are being taken...it's the last week of the semester. Congratulations, you made it! You made it through another year of schooling, you've studied and prepared and packed and rented a place or went home. And now you don't know what to do with yourself. (If you do, great! You're already ahead of the rest of us.)
Summer is about to begin and there are a plethora of cool things that you can do, but your brain is too fried from finals to remember. That's where I come in.
Number one, I would recommend getting a job. Any job works, honestly. You're a college student and, unless you've just graduated, a part-time job at a fast food place won't kill you. College is expensive and spending money is a great thing to have. Just get a job.
Number two, RELAX. Seriously! I know that our society is super fast paced and that it's good to be busy but give yourself a break. You just finished a school year with a week of finals, maybe you moved and got a new job, too. You've gotta treat yo' self and just lay back for a day or two: if it's sunny, go hammock. If the weather sucks, take a day and binge watch something. Just take a breather.
It's summer now! Enjoy the sun!
Some ways to enjoy the sun include:
Plant a garden, flower or vegetable. It's a rewarding process and it gets you outside.
Swim. Pool, river, ocean, water park, lake; really, the possibilities are endless, especially in Michigan. Swim with friends, swim with dogs, swim with fish. Just swim.
Get outside! It's summer for crying out loud! Go to the beach, go for a hike, hammock, run, walk, kayak, camp, road trip.
Summers are notorious for county fairs and amusement parks. I love the county fair. What's better than cute animals and fun rides in the same place at once? Here's a link for fairs in Michigan. Amusement parks vary from place to place so I'll just mention the big guns: Cedar Point, Michigan's Adventure, Six Flags, Nickelodeon Universe, to name a few. A day at the park is always a good idea!
Concerts are always on the to-do list, but it tends to be harder to go to them while attending college. Summer is a great way to go to concerts, especially outdoor ones, like at DTE Energy Theater. Music festivals are always fun, too! Get your music on and explore new artists. The best way to get some instant positive vibes is to go to a concert. You could even try your luck by listening to the radio and calling in to win a free pair of tickets!
Lastly, I would suggest spending time with close friends and family, especially if you go to school far away. You've got a couple months to chill and catch up with everybody, so take that opportunity.
Get through these last few exams and have a great summer!
