Ah yes, the legendary Freshman 15 which never seems to taunt the poor freshmen mind. Some say it's inevitable, but I could disagree. With long days and long nights, where do you find time to fit in that exercise your body craves or the healthy salad that's just calling your name? Not to mention the endless hours you put into school, work, and whatever other activities, you may have taken by storm. So, is the Freshman 15 really a necessary commodity for your first year on your own while trying to figure life out? I think not, so here are 11 ways to combat that awful stereotype the tired, college mind tends to give us:
1. Don't give into society when it tells you, "You can and will gain 15 pounds as a Freshman." You really don't have to. I promise it's only a myth.
2. Stop delaying things aka your diet, and by that, I mean by saying, "Yeah, it's fine. I'll just start my diet tomorrow," but really who actually does that and sticks to it? None of my friends, and I know that for a fact.
3. Go to sleep as early as possible. It's been proven that a poor sleep schedule leads directly to weight gain, and I know that Netflix show is really good, but it'll still be there in the morning. Don't you worry!
4. No, you don't need that dessert because it will go straight to your ass, and then you will be sad.
5. Walk as much as you can during and at school, take all the stairs possible by avoiding the elevators. You would be surprised how many calories you actually burn during one day.
6. Get to the gym whenever you have time: between classes, before class, after class, at night, in the afternoon, just whenever you get the point just go. You'll feel great after!!
7. You don't have to go out tonight, the bars will always be there. Just because you have a little case of FOMO (fear of missing out), you'll be happier when you wake up and revitalized.
8. Eat a good breakfast and try to cut out the snacking. Instead, eat full hearty meals that will fill you up completely!
9. Drink tons of water: the more water you drink, the better chances you have at having a faster metabolism throughout the day. Consuming lots of water is good for your health in general.
10. Most importantly, be good to yourself: take care of yourself and make time for a mental health day, as we all know college and life can be very stressful and chaotic 99.99% of the time. Don't be hesitant to put your phone on sleep mode and relax.
11. Do not late night snack. It's probably the worst thing you can do and the ultimate flaw in weight-loss.
Life is rough, college is rougher (or, at least, it seems like), but that doesn't mean you have to give in. Fifteen pounds has nothing on you, and remember, spring break is right around the corner.
