Donald J. Trump stood by his call to block all Muslims from entering the United States. He cast it as a temporary move in response to terrorism and invoked President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s authorization of the detention of Japanese, German and Italian immigrants during World War II as precedent. My stance on the issue is that Trump is coming off as racist and narcissistic. The Middle-East has been under attack by the Islamic State group for some time now, and those ignorant to the issue assume all Muslims support them. In reality, what people and Trump are failing to realize is that poor souls are being tortured by the Islamic State group and their extreme views. Denying those suffering a chance for salvation goes against the foundation of America, the land of the free.
Some critics assailed Trump’s proposal as self-defeating and un-American. I have to say I disagree with the critics on this one. While I may not support Trump and his views, I think the love he has for this country is so strong that he feels he needs to go to extreme measures to protect it. To say he is acting un-American is politically incorrect. Trump is someone I consider to be so wrapped up in America itself that he does not consider that people not from here could benefit from America. He certainly is not self-defeating because there are those out there who strongly support him. Trump would not have made it as far as he has if it was not for his support system.
The White House said Trump had disqualified himself from serving as president. I do not think the statement could be any truer. His extreme views may sound pleasing to many, but are not realistic or possible. Take his stance on the Mexico border for example. You cannot build a wall to keep out immigrants. Many countries would lose respect for America if Trump became president. In order to combat Hilary Clinton, Trump argues she plays “the woman card”. Not only is this sexist, but entirely immature. We cannot have a president who is not for the equality of all citizens.
