Getting older means growing up, whether we’re ready for it or not. We feel as though we need to have everything figured out, everything in place. But anyone who says they’ve always known exactly how things were going to turn out is a liar.
We think the key to success is feeling secure -- whether that be in ourselves, in what we’re doing, or in where we’re going. We forget that sometimes we have to feel unsure before anything works out.
It’s OK to feel a little lost.
There isn’t much in life we can really be certain of. We may think we have it all figured out, and then without warning, everything can change. We have no choice other than to pick ourselves up and keep going.
The sooner we accept this uncertainty, the sooner we can prepare ourselves to handle whatever life has in store for us. Besides, sometimes the best things come from those moments when we feel as if everything has been ripped out from under us.
Maybe one day the cracks on the sidewalk won’t scare us, and the change of the tides will bring us comfort.
You’re still here, and that’s what matters. Even when the days are tough, you’ve made it too far to give up now. It’s OK if you aren’t sure what you want your major to be, or even just where you want to go to lunch. We usually find the answer when we stop stressing so hard about it. The important thing is to find security in the people that surround us and the knowledge that we’ve gotten this far, so life isn't going to quit on us yet.
Feeling lost is OK -- it just means you're human. We all have moments of insecurity, but that doesn’t mean that feeling is going to last forever. If we knew how everything was going to turn out, life would be pretty boring. Part of the wonder in life is its lack of predictability. The more we embrace this, the better off we’ll be.
So, if things aren't going your way, and you have no idea what to do, just remember to take a breath and relax. It’s going to be alright, I swear. Even if it’s not right away, or in the way you thought it would be, just know that life will give you wonderful things that you never expected. Just give it a little time -- we've all seen it work out before, so there's no reason it won't this time around.
