"You're going to be okay," I think thats the worst thing you can hear as an 18-21 year old. You feel the world crumbling around you at the sight of a less than perfect grade, a ruined relationship/friendship or problems at home. All you can think about is how everything around you is not how you thought it would be at this point in your life. For example-- maybe you're 21 years old (going on 22), graduating from college in a few months and have no clue where you'll be after graduation, you're single and feel like dying alone is for sure in your future (ouch), BUT YOU'RE WRONG, so incredibly wrong.
And honestly I want to tell you that yes, you're 21, going on 22, the world is your oyster and who cares if you don't know what you're doing with your life or if you haven't met the man/ woman of your dreams. But I refuse to do that because, that 21, going on 22 year old is me and I know first hand how much it actually sucks to feel like you have no control over where your life is going. I also happen to not know you personally so telling you that everything is going to be aces soon enough would be complete bull, but what I can tell you is that you're going to be okay.
Whatever obstacle you're facing right now is so extremely temporary. Stressing about graduation? It's going to happen. Worried about being unemployed? You're not going to be unemployed forever with a college degree. Yeah maybe your dream job is out of reach for the moment but work hard, or better yet... work HARDER. Do you think you're going to be alone forever? Okay, let's be a touch less cynical about this one.
It's so absolutely overwhelming to worry about things that are so completely out of our control so instead, why not enjoy it? Enjoy the fact that there is no controlling the future, its bound to happen, inevitable some may say, no matter how much you resist it, its coming at us like a freight train. I mean that in the best way possible, its a freight train filled with so many new people, possibilities and opportunities. Sure doors close, windows open and all of those cliches that people say, but my favorite is the fact that "there are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind" (C.S. Lewis, not me).
So let's make a movement to make our present the best that it can be and leave certain people and things in the past. Things that belong in our past and not in our future have a way of making themselves very distinct from one another. They drag you down, and keep you down instead of lifting you up. Whether it's a broken friendship that you're tired of mending, or stress about your future, maybe try less? And instead leave things up to God more. He's got your future covered, and He's going to make sure you're okay.
