This is a short letter to anyone struggling this week, month, semester, or year.
You don’t need to have it all figured out today. Being a typical “know-it-all” is something that no one appreciates. No one wants to feel helpless in a situation where they feel undermined by someone who wants to flaunt their knowledge. But the other type of know-it-all that you should avoid striving to become is the person who tries to know what their whole life will contain within a short period of time.
Take it one day at a time. I don’t want to sound too preachy, but don’t put pressure on yourself to have your entire life figured out right now. Please know that you’ll find your way. When things seem tough, know that they will get better. No matter the outlet that you use to comfort yourself, always know that you are loved. Constant worrying or agonizing about what will happen will only create more stress.
Don’t get me wrong, every once in awhile we need to have a venting session, or have a good cry. Sometimes the roadblocks in life pile up too high for us to see clearly over them, and certain aspects of our life prevent us from merely going around them. We are forced to deal with the situation, and sometimes it really sucks. A breakup, a test that we failed, a friendship that is facing hardships. These things are a part of life, unfortunately. They break our heart, crush our spirit, and kill our soul. But these things are only temporary. Know that the good thing about these bad times is that they’ll make us stronger. It sounds cliche, but it really is true. Plus, if we always had wonderful things happen to us, we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the amazing experiences that we have in our lives as fully.
But no matter what the hardship or struggle, we must get back up and keep going. Today, I want to be the voice that tells you that you are strong enough.
Don’t worry about the future too much. Yes, you probably want to take measures to help you achieve success, like college students are while earning a degree, but remember to take your life day by day. You don’t have to have everything figured out. Don’t focus on being a know-it-all. Just focus on living your life to the fullest, even on the days that you ride the struggle bus.
