To the girl who feels as if she does not belong,
You wake up at midnight. It was another nightmare. You were running, but from what? Was it a monster, a criminal, or a friend? You woke up, panting, crying, trying to catch a breath. And when you do, this darkness suddenly swoops you up. You are all alone. Again.
You drift back to sleep. Two hours later, you wake up. This time, you are clenching your chest. Your heart is racing, your throat is throbbing from screaming. You had a dream. No, a nightmare. You were just a regular school girl, eating your lunch in your normal seat when a group of girls came up to you. "What do you think you are doing?" You were being bullied. Except, those girls used to be your friends.
You are now stuck believing this nightmare actually happened. You believe you are all alone, you believe you do not belong.
But, you do. You belong in so many places. You belong in your parents' hearts, your school, your classes, and even on this Earth.
You belong. You will always belong. You will feel like you belong.
Truth is, we are all ants in a tornado, trying to survive.
We all try to survive in our own way. Some turn to drugs, alcohol, writing, or even endless partying.
But we survive. You will find your outlet, your gate to belonging, and you will feel endless joy. You will find your friends, your home, and your village. Maybe you already have and you do not realize it yet.
You will find your 2 A.M. friends. You will find your super small circle. You will find your support system. You will find your source of happiness. You will find what you have long searched for. You will belong.
It will take time, without a doubt. But who is there to say that it will not be worth it?
If you are being bullied, search for the other person also undergoing this bullying. If you are being discriminated, find the other also being discriminated. If you are being controlled, find the other. If you are spending all of your time alone, find the other one who is also doing this.
I promise you belong.
Sincerely, a girl who also felt as if she did not belong.
