I get it. It's not fair. No, really, it wasn't a fair fight. Though, come on, we knew the DNC was with her long before this e-mail scandal went live. Because Hillz bleeds democratic blue and has been a long-time insider, while our scruffy socialist didn't officially affiliate with a party until he started running for president. Also, he calls himself a socialist. Which, I love, but most Dems in leadership were thrown off by his reaalllly progressive ideas and his fervent young idealistic supporters such as myself. I mean, if you had told me a year and a half ago the millennial vote had been won by an old white man from Vermont who yelled a lot, I would've laughed in your face.
But even now, many are still feeling the bern, even after Hillary won popular vote over a month ago. Now, after the DNC e-mails came out, we have a reason to be. Bernie always said it wasn't a fair fight, and now there is significant proof of that.
But it's too late. Hillary did win the popular vote, and was officially accepted as the Democratic candidate Thursday evening. Bernie has fully committed to supporting Hillary in this presidential race, and he's a man of his word. He's not coming back. This isn't like one of those superhero movies, where right when all looks lost and our hero is trapped by the enemy, he breaks free and saves the day. Mostly because Hillary isn't the villain in this story.
I won't tell you to vote for or who not to vote for, but I'm just going to leave this here...
I could spend the rest of this article going through every line of this video and the multiple things I find wrong with it, but that's not what this article is about so I'll just say this: Trump claims anyone who "endorses violence, hatred, or oppression is not welcome in this country" after Trump himself has done his best to marginalize the Hispanic, Muslim, and female populations in this country.
No, this isn't like a superhero movie. This is more like a basketball game in the NCAA tournament, when your favorite team is tied in the last precious seconds of the game and the ref calls a foul out of thin air, allowing the other team to score...and it doesn't seem right, but the game has ended. Your team is out of the race. No amount of protesting will change that, you have to move on and choose another team.
Maybe the only reason you choose this new team is because you despise another team, and you have no idea how this despised team is still in the tournament. Maybe you choose an underdog team, who has so little chance of winning but is more aligned with your basketball preferences so you root for them anyway.
That metaphor just kind of died. But, you get it. Team Bernie is out for the season, there is no amount of complaining or rioting that will change that. Especially not the violent riots that have broken out led by fervent Bernie supporters. Because guys, as angry as we may be violence doesn't solve anything and these riots are more counterproductive for the progressive's cause (just sayin').
Now you are left with a few options-continue to live in the past or make beneficial decisions about the future. Bernie may have lost but he refuses to be forgotten-because of him Hillary's platform is the most progressive plan in the history of the Democratic party. There are also third-party candidates who are getting more attention than ever this election season. Check out the profile on Green Party candidate Jill Stein here, or Gary Johnson of the Libertarian party here. This writer may be biased but I try to let my readers decide for themselves, so I'll attach a link to Trump's platform here. Because until his reign starts we still retain the right to think for ourselves (sorry, but I'm not actually sorry).
I encourage each and every one of you to hold on to the passion you hold for the progressive beliefs that made you feel the bern in the first place, no matter which candidate you choose to vote for in the upcoming election (just, please vote). I encourage each and every one of you to continue to (peacefully) fight for these beliefs through the votes you cast for all elections-whether it be for a president, congressperson, senator, or state official. I encourage each and every one of you to continue to stand up for what you believe in through joining the grassroots movements in your area. And, I encourage each and every one of you to look forward to 2020. Because even though our favorite team may have lost this election season, there's always next time around.
