Which college student doesn’t love sleep? Who else gets grumpy like a toddler when they don’t get their afternoon nap? I stumbled upon this holiday in my planner, and I thought that all college students should be informed about this great holiday. The first National Sleep in Public Day was in 2011 and has been widely celebrated worldwide every year. What better place to celebrate National Sleep in Public Day than at Purdue? Purdue offers so many different and exciting places to take your afternoon nap. So let’s all choose to snooze this February 28th at some of the best places on Purdue’s campus.
The Union
Purdue Memorial Union definitely has a Harry Potter feel to it on the inside. Where else could you go dream about Hogwarts and Ron Weasley than at the union when you wake up and feel like you’re still there? Plus the comfy couches and the quiet hallways on the third floor make for a great place to catch some ZZZ’s.
The Jedi Room
This hidden gem of Purdue is the best place for a nap. First of all, no one ever goes in it. Plus, what other amazing view would you rather wake up to? The Jedi Room has the best view of campus. You will feel like a locked away princess up in her tall tower waiting for prince charming to come rescue her. Just be careful for the window cleaners that might be creeping in on you.
The “Hello” Walk
The “Hello” walk would be the perfect place for an afternoon nap in the sun. It would be very quiet since no one actually says “hello” to people they pass as they make their way to class. The grass will make a perfect bed for your quick snooze in-between classes.
McDonald's
What better place to take a nap with a full stomach than at the Golden Arches? After a meal on a budget you can slide down into those big red vinyl booths and you’ll feel right at home. The booths at McDonald's are about the same size and comfort as a dorm room bed. Sweet dreams Ronald McDonald.
Loeb Fountain
Out of all the fountains to sleep at on campus, Loeb Fountain is the way to go. The comfy concrete benches, the sweet smell of flowers, and the loud noise of 2,200 gallons of water per minute can make for a great nap. The rushing of the water will remind of the ocean and you will soon drift into thoughts of life without exams, studying, and the sweet easygoing lifestyle of summer.
In the long run, you could take a nap pretty much anywhere at Purdue. College students can use any bit of sleep we get. Don’t forget to join the world in celebrating National Sleep in Public Day this February 28th. Sweet dreams Boilermakers!
