What Does Your Favorite Color Say About You?
Michael Maggs

Roses are red, violets are blue, whatā€™s you favorite color? It can say a lot about you.

I never knew there was such a thing as color psychology until I recently stumbled onto an article discussing it. Itā€™s interesting how our personalities can be linked to the colors we find ourselves attracted by. Listed below are some common colors and what I learned each can say about a person. What does your favorite color say about you?

White: Symbolic of purity, innocence, youth and naivetƩ. Your preference for the color white could indicate a desire for perfection and impossible ideals. It may also symbolize a desire for simplicity in life.

Red: The color of strength, health and vitality. This is a color usually enjoyed by those who are outgoing, optimistic, aggressive, ambitious, vigorous and impulsive. If you are a red person, you can sometimes find it hard to be objective and blame others for any mishaps. People who are quieter and love red may feel the need for the warmth, strength, possibly hiding their true feelings under a sober exterior.

Maroon: You are likable and generous. Often, the maroon color is chosen by someone who has been battered by life yet has come through. It indicates a well-disciplined red personalityā€”one who has had difficult experiences and has not come through unmarked but who has grown and matured in the process.

Pink: Women who prefer the color pink tend to be maternal, gentle and charming. They desire protection, special treatment and a sheltered life. Pink people typically require affection and like to feel loved and secure, perhaps wanting to appear delicate and fragile.

Orange: This color appeals to the flamboyant, social and fun-loving person. If you like orange you may dramatize a bit, but you are good-natured and popular. Orange symbolizes youth, strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness.

Yellow: This is the color of happiness, wisdom and imagination. Yellow is chosen by mentally adventurous people, searching for novelty and self-fulfillment. Yellow is associated with a sunny and shrewd personality. It is also the color of intellectuality and means you have a strong sense of humor. Yellow lovers are usually clear and precise thinkers who may at times tend to shun responsibility, preferring the freedom of thought and action.

Green: Symbolizes hope, renewal and peace, usually liked by the gentle and sincere. Liking the color green means you can be frank and fairly sociable. However, you prefer peace and harmony. Green people can be modest and patient, so they may get exploited by others. They are usually refined, civilized and reputable.

Blue: This is the color of someone who is patient, faithful, persevering, conscientious, sensitive and self-controlled. Blues like to be admired for their steady character and wisdom.

Blue-Green: The lover of a blue-green color tends to be sensitive, intellectual and refined, persevering and stable if rather detached. They have impeccable taste and are usually courteous and charming, but can often deny the use of help or guidance.

Turquoise: If you like this color you are complex, imaginative and original. You have a strong drive and may be in a state of turmoil under your outwardly cool exterior.

Lavender: You are creative, charming, civilized and witty. Liking the lavender color may mean that you are quite noble or respectful in behavior, donā€™t like to get your handā€™s dirty and see everything around you with an optimistā€™s perspective.

Purple: Liking this color indicates that you are very independent, witty, sensitive and are attentive to detail. You have a strong desire to be unique, are artistic and at times can be temperamental. When misunderstood, you may become quite aloof and sarcastic.

Brown: If you like the color brown, you are a dependable, kind person with stamina and patience. You are not impulsive and typically love to handle responsibilities.

Gray: You search for composure and peace, have good business abilities and often find yourself overworking or working without reward.

Black: Liking this color suggests that you want to appear mysterious and could indicate the that you have hidden depths and inner longings you keep suppressed.

I know what you may be thinking: ā€œBut what if I like more than one color?ā€ Do not fret because that simply means that your personality relates to different aspects of the colors you love most. Just like body language, the color(s) you favor can speak volumes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast ā€œBirthdayā€ on anyoneā€™s birthday. I knew all of the words to ā€œBack In The U.S.S.Rā€ by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. Iā€™m not someone to ā€œfangirlā€ but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
