Fashion First: Graduation Attire

May is a wonderful time of the year. The sun is out, the weather is warm and you find yourself transitioning your wardrobe preparing for the summer months ahead. If you find yourself choosing outfits well in advance for the numerous occasions you have going on for the month of May, you are not the only one! It is good to get a head start and choose graduation outfits wisely. Between friends and family, and I personally have a rather large family, it is common to have upwards of 3 graduations to attend. With that being said, it is very important to me to make sure I have the right outfit and most importantly, shoes. If you find yourself attending various graduation festivities in the coming weeks ahead or you are the graduate, listen up!

This is applicable to both graduates and guests of graduates! There are some cases in which white is more appropriate; however if it is not a requirement for grads (I know in some cases it is), then branch out into your color palette! White is a fabulous color, it is always been a favorite of mine as it is crisp and clean, fresh and youthful. For someone like myself who finds enough occasions to wear white, expanding your horizons might be a nice change! Light pastel colors are amazing for this time of year and makes spring graduation my favorite time because you have more options of color to work with! Light pastels, such as pink, blue, yellow, green and purple are great to work with!

When selecting shoes keep in mind where the graduation will be held and the proximity from parking to the venue. If you will be walking a long distance a flat or sandal is acceptable, especially if said graduation is on a football field! An indoor venue is a little easier to work with, so wedges and heels are more manageable. For graduates, keep the flashiness to a minimum in your shoe choice! Your outfit can be easily hidden by a gown and tassels but your shoe choice will be seen for miles away. Pick something a little more neutral if your outfit is a brighter color, even if your outfit is white or neutral, a neutral shoe will look great! As a lover of flashy, bold designer shoes I chose to wear a beautiful pair of spiked Christian Louboutin heels for my high school graduation. For those who do not know, Louboutin shoes are beautifully made, cost an arm and leg and are as flashy as can be. I went to an all girls' high school where graduates have graduated for the past 173 years in the same exact spot, the Grove. The Grove is our front campus courtyard; it is beautiful, old and stately. I thought such a grand location deserved a grand entrance and my shoes would be sure to do the talking as I graced the stage. What I failed to realize was that it could rain. Graduation day came and the grass was nice and dewy with the night's previous rainfall. Needless to say my entrance on stage was not so grand when I hit the grass. While my shoes stunned the audience it was the wrong pair to wear! I would have been much better off wearing a nice sandal or wedge. Do not make the same mistake as I and choose wisely! With that, happy selecting your graduation attire!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
