Farewell, Beginning Of Freshman Year

Moving on to the next journey.

Though it might not seem that significant to everyone, these first few months of my college experience have been absolutely life-altering. I have completely changed as a person. Because I’m the sentimental person I am, I thought I should say a little something to the people who have helped me through my journey so far.

To those who have transferred already:

I miss you!

I have so much to say to you, but I hope this suffices:

I want you to know what an impact you've had on my life. You've meant the world to me, even though we only had such little time together. I've shared my good days with you, and my heartbreaks, too, and I'm so grateful that I got to know you. My life would not have been the same without you, and you've done so much for me, even if it didn't seem like it at the time.

See, I believe that everyone comes into your life for a reason, if only to say "hi" to you when you're having a bad day, if only to give you the tiniest spark of hope to keep going until tomorrow.

I don’t believe in goodbyes, so I’ll just say, “See you later.”

To my RAs and mentors:

You have no idea how much I’ll miss you once you’ve moved on! From late night chats to last minute study sessions, you help me every single day, and I want to tell you how special you are to me. Sometimes I don’t think I say it as much as I should.

Thank you for all of the hugs, all of the sincere thoughts and reassurances, and thank you for dealing with both my tears and my laughs and still never getting tired of me. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without you, and you’ve helped me so, so much thus far. I can’t wait to spend the rest of the year with all of you. Thank you for taking me under your wings!

To my beautiful campus:

I love your little nooks and crannies, your little places I can run away to and forget everything for a few minutes. I simply adore all of the spots that I that have claimed as my own to eat in, read in, write in, and most importantly, to call home. Thank you, my gorgeous campus, for being a safe haven and a home away from home.

To my friends here at college:

I’m so, so proud of you! Look at how far you’ve come and how well you’re doing! Words cannot express how much I love you and how much I look forward to hearing every little detail about your day! I wouldn’t trade our friendship for anything, and I will continue to love you and take the good with the bad. Never forget that I’m right here and that I’ll always be right here. We’ve already made so many memories, and I can’t wait to start making more!

Finally, to myself:

Keep doing whatever you need to make yourself happy. You're doing incredible thus far, and you can only go up from here. You go, girl. You do you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
