There are some friends that you realize you love the first time they stand up for you, some while blasting Chris Brown throwbacks, singing at the top of your lungs in the car together, and some by the sweet letter they wrote to you in a birthday card. But there are some friends that you love just because you always have.
I know I am lucky enough to have friends that are more like sisters. Some I’ve known since birth and never known anything different than to have them by my side. I can’t imagine life without them. Some friends you don’t talk to for months, but you know the second something happens they have your back. And there are some that you’ve just never done anything but laugh and go on adventures with.
New friends are important, just like new traditions are important. Sometimes you meet someone and you just click and nothing comes between you. These girls are risky, you have to work for their love, which is an important task to take on. You have to earn each other's trust, there’s no room to be selfish. You learn their likes and dislikes, and start to see their true colors. If you like them, great, who doesn’t love new friendships? But if they don’t turn out to be who you thought, you’ve got to make the judgement call on them. And not everyone will make it, because being a part of your life is a privilege, not a right. The people that are in your life are there because they deserve to be.
It's a great feeling when a new friend becomes a forever friend, because love is infinite and the more sisters the better.
It's nice to have people that have watched you grow and change as they have throughout the years, but you still love each other just as you always have. After ten plus years of friendship, if you now like country music and she’s more daring than you, it's okay. Because you still share the bonds you've had since the beginning. There's something about having such an important person in your life for such a long time. It’s special. They're the people you picture in your wedding and the friends you'll pick as your children's godparents. You can yell and scream at them like family, because really, they are. Your fights are only ever out of the others best interest, and you would do anything for them. So maybe by blood, you're not sisters, but by heart, there’s no better way to describe them.
