As many of us college students head back to school, we dread the difficult goodbyes we have to say. And while it’s true that saying goodbye to our friends and family can seem almost impossible at times, there is one goodbye that often gets neglected or forgotten about until it’s upon us: saying goodbye to our family pets. These are the dogs that have been with us since elementary school and the cats that are older than our youngest sibling. These animals have become a huge part of our daily routines and are truly family. Think about it, when was the last time your family went on a trip without factoring in the pets? Who greets you every time you walk in the door? Whose presence goes unnoticed at times, but when you think about your day to day interaction, they were always a part of it? That’s right, our animals impact our day to day lives and their unconditional love would be welcomed on a college campus. The pros of bringing our animals with to school really do outweigh the cons:
It is one less goodbye we have to suffer through.
It would solve all of our roommate issues. “Why is the room SO messy?” “Must have been the cat."
They are superb stress relievers. Most of the time.
They would help college kids avoid the dreaded freshman 15.
And late assignments would no longer be questioned. “Honestly Professor, my roommate’s dog really did eat my homework.”
And for those of you worrying about the smell? Well, it can’t be worse than the boys' dorm rooms. Plus, our pets probably spend more time bathing themselves than we do.
Animals are motivators. Homework or clean the litter box? Homework.
It will prevent the inevitable grudge that our pets will develop if we leave them for months at a time.
They are totally accepting of all of our college habits. They would never judge us for taking three naps or eating four dinners. As long as we let them join us, that is.
Ultimately, they will be a shoulder to cry on…
A constant companion…
And will love you unconditionally, even if you just failed your calculus exam.
Pets in the dorm would be absolute bliss, don’t you all agree?
