Family Comes First

Why this MLB player decided to retire might surprise you.

Family Comes First

I would be lying if I said I was a big baseball fan. I'm not sure if I can even name you a player on the Yankees. Athletes retire just like people with any other profession would. Sometimes it's because of age, injury, or even scandal, but this time around, an Major League Baseball player retired when he was told his son couldn't spend as much time at the field. I have never heard of such a situation occurring in the world of professional sports.

Chicago White Sox first baseman Adam LaRoche announced on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 that he was retiring and forging the $13 million salary that he would have earned.

Some may call him crazy for passing at the opportunity to make that much money, but for this family man, money does not have the same value as family.

LaRoche had been known to bring his 14-year-old son to the dugout and the team's facilities, but White Sox president Ken Williams had enough with LaRoche's family antics.

Fox confirmed that Williams did indeed text LaRoche about his son. The texts between the two men read, "All I'm asking you to do with regard to bringing your kid to the ballpark is dial it back. I don't think he should be here 100 percent of the time - and he has been here 100 percent, every day in the clubhouse. I said I don't even think he should be here 50 percent of the time. Figure it out, somewhere in between."

I have never heard of such a situation occurring in the world of professional sports. What may have been a tough decision for some was an easy one for LaRoche who after this debacle sent a tweet out with the hashtag "family first".

From a professional level, I understand where the higher-ups where coming from. Yes, there are official bring your kids to work days, but that doesn't mean bring your kid to work everyday.

However, to some people, family is everything and when you mess with someone's family, it all goes down hill from there.

On an interesting note though, there are a lot of professional athletes who are married to celebrities their social media accounts are flooded with pictures of their wives and kids at training facilities, arenas, and stadiums, but that never makes moves.

Clearly LaRoche's decision was a personal one and he boldly planted his feet and is confident in his choice.

The only home plate this former slugger is running to now is the one he shares with his son at home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
