As the months switch from August to September, the ease of syllabus week also fades away into autumn, resulting in a totally different lifestyle change from summer. Suddenly it's not about decorating dorms and catching up with friends, it's more like praying your book comes in the mail so you feel less clueless in your class. So here's to seven things that "fall" in the early months of college life:
Sleep.
As much as we treasure our long nights, the truth is many of us enjoyed sleeping in at a decent time, or making sure we could get to bed early when we knew we needed to. But now homework and other commitments keep us up, and classes wake us up.
Self Confidence.
This isn't to say that every college student struggles with this, but at some point in the semester most people feel themselves having to fight against feeling stupid after a challenging class, or coping with a less-than-average test grade. And if you haven't felt this yet -- don't worry, you will.
Willingness To Do Laundry.
I know that it's not what you want to hear mom, but when you have a thousand commitments and pages of reading to catch up on, 10/10 would rather watch a movie and relax than use free time to wash my clothes (or even more, sheets).
Quality of Meals.
Well the dining hall is serving carrot sticks and soup, so that makes lunch right?
Energy.
For some inexplicable reason, it's so much easier to get out of bed on a Tuesday morning than a Friday morning after having my sleep per night decline steadily over the week.
Handwriting Quality.
I mean, if you can read your notes, it's fair game. Nobody got time to try.
Patience until Halloween.
Let's be real. We're not enjoying the season because we might slip on wet leaves, we're really just getting ready for one of the best holidays of the year.
All jokes aside, the struggle of adjusting to college is still there no matter how many times we do it. So let's enjoy it and celebrate the quirks as well as the best parts, because we won't get to do it forever.
