What It's Like Being a "Fall Person" in the Summer

Bring on the sweater weather.

What It's Like Being a "Fall Person" in the Summer

As we’re coming up on the last few weeks of summer, many people are mourning the end of long, hot days consisting of popsicles and swimming. Some of us, however, have been awaiting this transition since summer began. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are great things about summer. I thoroughly enjoy trading schoolwork for sunshine and laziness just as much as the next person, but there’s something about fall that makes me oh, so happy. If you’re a fellow fall fanatic, then you can probably relate to these things:

1. You just want to go outside without almost dying of heatstroke

Here in the Midwest, summer tends to be humid. Like, you feel like you’re breathing in oatmeal because the air is so thick. As a girl with curly hair, this is especially unfortunate (hello, perpetual frizz). I, for one, am always ready for that crisp air that doesn’t cause me to sweat buckets when I’m just sitting there.

2. You don’t really own summer clothes

When 95% of your wardrobe consists of sweaters, jeans and scarves, you can’t wait to not struggle that extra 20 minutes when getting ready because everything you pick out is probably too warm for the sweltering heat.

3. Fall scented everything

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got the spiced apple candles out all year long, so it might as well be fall to make it seasonally acceptable.

4. Fall activities are your jam

You were born ready for hay-rack rides, bonfires, and corn mazes, just thinking about them gets you pumped for the season to start.

5. New Releases

Why most TV shows take a break when we have the most time to watch them, I’ll never know, but fall usually marks the restart of your favorite TV shows or the release of that next book you’ve been waiting forever for.

6. Leaves

Green’s great and all, but the oranges, reds, and yellows that come with the cooler weather are just so pretty.

7. Ordering your favorite drinks

As much as you love a hot latte, it’s just not the same when it’s sweltering outside. Something about drinking a hot chai in the slightly crisp weather is just so right.

8. Harvest season is the best season.

Growing up on a farm, there's something about the hustle and bustle of harvest season that has a special place in my heart. From riding with my dad in the combine to playing in wagons full of corn, so many good memories are associated with this time of year.

9. Football

Now, I’m no football fanatic, but even I got pumped about Friday nights in high school and I know that the start of pro football is a huge deal for a large portion of the American population. And therefore, being able to cheer on your favorite team yet is another reason to love fall.

10. FALL FOOD

Apple cider, chili, pumpkin EVERYTHING. I don’t think I’m just speaking for myself when I say fall food is above all other food.

11. Fall means we’re that much closer to Christmas

CHRISTMAS. Enough said.

Yes, there are great things about every season, but something about fall is especially exciting. Bring on the sweater weather, I say.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
