Fall Fashion for the Not So Basic

Fall Fashion for the Not So Basic

There are sad girls struggling campus wide with the fight against basic betch syndrome. Once you’ve caught it, it can be particularly challenging to shake. Some say it's even harder than fighting ebola, but I’m here to help with six fall fashion trends hailing from the not so basic betches. Let’s just rip the Band-Aid off.

1. It’s time to say bye-bye to your Uggs, because they should have been replaced a long time ago. Don’t worry though, there are so many directions to go here. Duck boots are way cuter, and they can actually hold up in bipolar Mississippi weather. Or ankle booties with a stacked heel? They’re the Cady Heron to the Regina George of riding boots. Cady is definitely not a basic betch.

2. Sweaters. They’re everyone’s fall favorite. But this knit sweater over the srat t-shirt concept is like a basic betch tucking her sweatpants into her Uggs. Wear the sweater, own the sweater, you are the sweater! It will be your best friend if you let it be.

3. L-A-Y-E-R-S. The unbasic betch never wears just one article of clothing.

4. Scarves. You can buy scarves anywhere. Even better, you can find different scarves everywhere. It’s not likely that you’ll be matching every other person you see. And you can borrow them from friends regardless of what size you are.

5. Coffee. If you don’t think coffee is an accessory... you’re wrong. Girls will carry their to-go cups like it’s a freaking Golden Globe. Even after we finish drinking it, we will still carry it from class to class. But the "unbasic" betch doesn’t order a skinny pumpkin spice latte. Instead, she wraps herself up in a big scarf and goes to a local coffee shop and gets something way better. Maybe you’ll be five minutes late to class, but the "unbasic" are worth waiting for.

6. Leggings. Everyone loves leggings, girls and boys alike. Maybe for different reasons, but that’s beside the point. They’re comfortable, easy to get into, match everything, and multifunctional. But everything in moderation right? Blair Waldorf said it, not me, leggings are not pants. If you’re basic, you’re wearing your leggings every single day, and you can’t sit with us.

It’s a hard transition from basic to the "unbasic." However, if you have a solid support group and use this guide, you might be able to overcome it. But the most basic thing you could do is following these steps to a tee. Part of not being basic is finding your own style and breaking a few fashion boundaries. But about the Uggs... I really meant that one.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
